The other day, I was aimlessly browsing through the \u2018YouTube\u2019 going from one movie trailer to another and suddenly, there he was; Rowan Atkinson aka Mr Bean. I am a big fan of him and I thought at the time that I had seen all of his presentations that had come so far both on TV and also on silver screen. I was wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And \nI struck gold. Mr Bean was delivering a eulogy to honour Tom, Dick and Harry, \nall of whom had perished together in an accident. Amidst my roaring laughter, \nwhich I found hard to stop, a little something was taking shape in my mind as I \nkept watching it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Now, \nTom was blind and he was also deaf. Tom had a great voice yet being both blind \nand deaf he didn\u2019t know what hymn he was singing and people never knew what he \nwas singing either. And then Tom actually didn\u2019t know any hymns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Leading \nTom through darkness of life was Dick, who had a perfect eyesight and would lead \nTom wherever he wanted to go. Unfortunately since Dick was also deaf he couldn\u2019t \nhear where Tom wanted to go. However Dick never complained of his afflictions. \nWell he couldn\u2019t because he was dumb too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then \nthe duo had a permanent companionship with Harry, who could literally hear a pin \ndrop. Yet being blind and dumb, he could not see to pick it up nor could he warn \nanyone else not to stand on it.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n


And \nwhen they had returned from work in the evening, they all sat on the couch with \nDick watching the television, Harry listening to the television and Tom \ninsisting that it was time to buy a television.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


There \nis a bit more to the above but this is enough to cover what I want to say about \nour own Toms Dicks and Harrys amongst those two hundred and twenty five from \n\u2018Diyawannawa\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Now \nour Toms, Dicks and Harrys constitute a no small number among those, who are \ninhabiting the palace in \u2018Diyawannawa. Wouldn\u2019t what they are good at fit in \nbeautifully with the capabilities of late Tom, Dick and Harry of Mr Bean, in \nmany ways, speaking metaphorically?<\/p>\n\n\n\n


I \nam sure that it would be a very amusing and entertaining exercise to figure out \nas to who amongst them could fit into the shoes of each one of our late Tom, \nDick and Harry?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some \nof them say things without the faintest of idea about what they are saying, \nwhich they don\u2019t know anything about, anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then \nthere are some, who would attempt to lead, yet do not hear where others want to \ngo. Then to make matters worse, they act as if they know where they are going, \nwhich they really don\u2019t know. And they don\u2019t tell the rest anything. So they all \nend up somewhere none of them want to be including the leaders \nthemselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now \nwe have among them some, who could hear, but couldn\u2019t see and then refuse to \nspeak, so they wouldn\u2019t say to others what and when to do something and what and \nwhen not to do another thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And \nlastly, referring to the scene, where the TDH trio were watching the television \nand poor blind and deaf Toms\u2019 insistence that it was time to buy a TV, do you \nsee any parallels with our own Toms from Diyawannawa? I am leaving it with you \nto find one, if not few. Though one thing should be kept in mind that our Toms \nincluding Dicks and Harrys, for that matter, are not as innocent and na\u00efve as \nthose of Mr Bean\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Now \nimagine a breathtaking and mind boggling spectacle; a tussle of a multitude of \nthese Toms, Dicks and Harrys vying and wrestling for a seat in the grand buffet, \nengaging in all sorts of manoeuvres to outdo and outshine the others, something \nthat puts them strictly apart from our late trio of T, D and H. After all these \nthree were together till the end and tried their best to help one another, in \nspite of their afflictions, which they were not aware of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The \nseventy-year long road is littered with the debris of our former Toms, Dicks and \nHarrys have created so far and then left. And their successors continue to \nfollow the tradition, making the pile grow, high and higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t \nwe need a few, who could see, listen and have the voice to say courageously to \nall concerned as to what is wrong and what is right and act \naccordingly?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some, \nwho can and would clear the mammoth-size debris (no pun intended), the mega-size \ndebts, once and for all, and begin to build the path to prosperity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
