We have\nalways wondered why the BBC is better\nknown as the British Bullshit Corporation and now we can\nunderstand why. That together with Mindshare\u2019s Power\nto the People\u2019s Report\nclaiming BBC has no credibility kind\nof puts the icing on the\ncake on the value of BBC\u2019s opinion. Why is BBC\nso worried about Sri Lanka\u2019s new\nPresident?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We would\nlike BBC to correct\nthe notion that Sri Lanka had a civil\nwar \u2013 it didn\u2019t. Sri\nLanka suffered terrorism and LTTE was an enemy\nof all including Tamils whom LTTE killed in no small numbers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are the human rights violations the BBC claims the President has committed? Name them and provide the evidence instead of abusing\nthe pen to make\nallegations.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have\nsome news for you BBC \u2013 ethnic tensions were all created when UNP governments were in power\nespecially the 1983 riots and the present PM leader\nof the UNP even apologized for the burning of the\nJaffna library. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dynastic family politics is something part\nand parcel of Asian\npolitics \u2013 the Nehrus and Gandhi ruled India and still dictate politics, the UNP except under R Premadasa is a party of family\nmembers passing leadership to another,\nwe have had a father,\nmother and daughter leading Sri Lanka. Take the present Parliament \u2013 there are loads of family\nmembers inside it. Its\ntrivial exercise and waste of space\nto be naming all from both ruling and opposition parties. So if the brothers saw an end\nto 30 years of terror\n\u2013 what is the problem BBC has? Getting rid of the\nterror is what people wanted \u2013 4 Presidents failed to do so and it took\nthe guts of the\n5th<\/sup> President to give\nthe orders to eliminate the\nLTTE as commander in chief\nof the Armed Forces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

BBC is so concerned about Sri Lanka\u2019s casualties \u2013 where\nwas the BBC when JVP was killing innocent people in the\n1970s, 1980s and 1990s \u2013 was BBC silent because the victims were Sinhalese? UNP was killing JVP who were Sinhalese and JVP were killing the UNPers who were Sinhalese. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

BBC says \u2018thousands of people\ndisappeared\u2019\nwhere \u2013 is this number omitting the close to 300,000 that\nthe Sri Lankan Army saved from the clutches of the\nLTTE? BBC says \u2018many are said\u2019 to be tortured or killed\n\u2013 how many is many?\nCan we have some numbers and details please. Instead of just\ndropping allegations just to go to print. Have you tried looking up the\nrefugees and asylum seekers in the\nUK, EU, Canada, Australia against the names of the\ncould be \u2018disappeared\u2019, you may be surprised to find your missing living amongst you. We heard\nthere are agencies that people pay to be burnt with cigarette butt ends, a white\ndoctor will issue certificate claiming injuries are \u2018recent\u2019 the assumption is that\nthe culprits are the army and voila that seals asylum after a training session\nthat teaches people to cry,\nruns through what they need to say\n\u2013 a virtual rehearsal before seeking asylum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the\nmanner that people have disappeared according to BBC\nit is a wonder\nthat there are minorities living in Sri\nLanka and baffling how their population is increasing inspite\nof disappearances and never returning stories. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yippie \u2013it\u2019s the white van story back again in circulation. How\nabout telling us who\ndisappeared\n\u2013 when \u2013 their names \u2013 from where \u2026 a little bit of statistics would\nreally help. Otherwise it is going to end\nup like the stunt pulled by the\npresent Health Minister bringing a driver\nwith a bogus beard and a story\nthat has become a laughing stock\nacross the island. So much\nfor white van drama! That became an election blooper!\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So BBC\nfinds fault with the President\u2019s \u2018tough\nstance on security\u2019 \u2013 do you mean to say\nthe President must close his eyes and allow all vultures to enter\nSri Lanka, make their bases, plan their attacks and kill innocent people? Well it may\nprovide breaking sensational news but we value\neveryone\u2019s life and the President as head\nof the State jolly well should too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well \u2018alleged\u2019 war crimes is just\nthat \u2018alleged\u2019 and you can be doing\na Goebbels 24×7 but international terrorism experts themselves have debunked these allegations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

BBC we suggest\nyou do not lose any sleep worrying about who gets elected because Sri Lanka has been electing people to office\nand they come with the people\u2019s mandate.\nSo, if the people vote anyone into power it is the people\u2019s choice\nand if anyone doesn\u2019t like\nthat choice \u2013 tough luck. We don\u2019t tell Britain who to vote\nor who not to vote.\nYou can elect May, Boris or have\nno choice in removing the\nQueen. But we respect\nthe choice of Britain\nand the British. It is their leaders, so be it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyone does have the freedom to speculate but it falls short\nwhen it is attempting to create fear and drum unnecessary tensions \u2013 obviously,\ncolonial British carries a legacy of divide and rule and these genes must be\nworking in the staff of the BBC too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Easter Sunday attack took place despite numerous warnings being\nignored. It was a total unnecessary death and people have every right to demand\nassurance of their safety and security. What is BBC\u2019s problem if candidates\ncampaigned to assure a Sri Lanka without terror? We almost forgot LTTE had its\ninternational headquarters in London even after UK banned LTTE in 2001. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps BBC should dig out the report by Human Rights Watch on\nLTTE Funding the Final War LTTE intimidation and extortions in the Tamil\nDiaspora\u201d this will give you an amazing list of examples of how Tamils lived in\nfear and that fear was felt more in Tamil areas where LTTE ruled \u2013 where from\npoor & low caste Tamil families, children were kidnapped and turned into\nchild soldiers. The sad accounts of their families and the children who lived\nto share their stories should embarrass BBC for trying to whitewash the LTTE\nand divert blame to others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To the authors Upasana Bhat & Maryam Azwer \u2013 perhaps you\nshould travel to Sri Lanka and interact with not the same set of people\njabbering gibberish because they are paid activists but talk to ordinary people\nand find out the truth because these fairy tales certainly will get claps from\nthe usual culprits but it just seals the BBC\u2019s lack of credibility and\ntarnishes its image. Travel to Sri Lanka, try to get an appointment with the\nnew President, have your questions but be ready to publish his answers without\nbias or without tweaking & twisting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media must report the truth not indulge in smear campaigns. Place the facts and allow the readers to make up their minds \u2013 don\u2019t force the readers to think like BBC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
