{"id":95617,"date":"2019-11-24T18:00:07","date_gmt":"2019-11-25T01:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=95617"},"modified":"2019-11-24T18:00:07","modified_gmt":"2019-11-25T01:00:07","slug":"welcome-to-sri-lanka-beautiful-island-sri-lanka","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2019\/11\/24\/welcome-to-sri-lanka-beautiful-island-sri-lanka\/","title":{"rendered":"WELCOME TO SRI LANKA- BEAUTIFUL ISLAND SRI LANKA"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong data-rich-text-format-boundary=\"true\">By M D P DISSANAYAKE<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Dr Gotabaya Rajapakse became our 7<sup>th<\/sup> President on 18 November 2019, just a week ago.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The busy Colombo Streets are already clean.\u00a0 The make-shift vendors have moved out from pavements, so the pedestrians can move freely.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no visible garbage dumping in the City, the public responded to the newly elected President call for the maintenance of cleanliness and protection of the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the Airport, prior to his election, inbound and outgoing women were seen in hundreds wearing Burqa and Niqaab.\u00a0 But today, civilization has returned to the Airport where everyone can be easily identified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On\na trip down south, from Wadduwa to Mirissa, the hotel operators have confirmed\nan instant increase of inbound tourists to Sri Lanka.&nbsp; You will find\ntoday, in addition to major hotels and motels, small operators providing\naccommodation are refurbishing their previously closed businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Hikkaduwa particularly, handicraft operators selling Batik products, paintings, and other ancillary items are back in business with newly found confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nfreedom of movements has been ensured for the public.&nbsp; <strong>The VIP fast\ndrivers are fast disappearing. Unnecessary public receptions to politicians\nhave disappeared.&nbsp; Sri Lanka is no longer a Paradise of Jokers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the invocation of Public Security Ordinance throughout the island, the law and order are being maintained whilst taking prompt action against drug dealers and other illegal activities.\u00a0 The Land, Sea and Air personnel are safeguarding the territory, with a fore-warning to Boats carrying drugs and illegal immigrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The upward trend of Sri Lankan Share Indices started one week prior to the Presidential Election,\u00a0 It is continuing signs of a healthy maintainable upward trend.\u00a0\u00a0 Sri Lankan currency unit Rupee is gradually appreciating from its previous disastrous low levels against major currencies.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festive season will bring additional foreign exchange through tourism, which will indirectly filter into self-employed personnel. In the coming months, positive improvements are expected as a result of the Consumer Price Index, reduction of unemployment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Increase in Money Circulation will take place due to the increase in Spending, the influx of direct and indirect local and foreign investments, thus reducing the inflation and interest rates in the medium term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr. Gotabaya Rajapakse has been in \u00a0Office for just 7 days.
