Soon after the\ndefeat, in Eelam War IV, the separatist forces went into its next phase of\nattack, which was UN action against Sri Lanka.  Sri Lanka was to be\npunished for defeating the LTTE and the LTTE was to be exonerated, using\nthe farce of Human rights\u201d. A separatist war is a political and military\nmatter. It is not a human rights matter. Therefore this approach is very weak.\nBut it was the only avenue available. The Security Council would have rejected\nthe matter outright. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

USA and the Tamil Separatist\nMovement had known well before the war actually ended that LTTE would lose.\nThey had the next move ready, which was to erase the victory by showing the war\nto be unfair, unjust,    unclean and\ntherefore not a legitimate victory at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was not something that the\nlocal Tamil Separatist Movement could handle. It had to be done by the\nUSA.  USA went to the UN Human Rights\nCouncil in Geneva with a series of Resolutions against the government of Sri\nLanka   in 2012, 2013, and 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \nThen came Resolution 30\/1 of October 2015, Promoting reconciliation,\naccountability and human rights in Sri Lanka\u201d ( A\/HRC\/RES\/30\/11). This\nResolution  was drafted by the US, with,\nwe are told, the concurrence of India and the Tamil Separatist Movement . It was\nprepared by Ms Sandra Beidas, formerly of the Amnesty International . It was \nsupported  in Geneva by the\nYahapalana government of Sri Lanka , a puppet government supported by the USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of Resolution 30\/1\nis to erase the   government  victory, and bring the Tamil separatist  matter onto front stage. This Resolution\nis  therefore an Eelam Resolution\u201d, not\na human rights one. It starts be referring to three  matters which are not  relevant to the Eelam War, but are  very relevant \nto the Tamil Separatist Movement, namely, 13th<\/sup> amendment,  19th<\/sup> amendment  and the Yahapalana regime change of 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Resolution then goes\ndirectly into the issues relating to  the\nwar  victory. The Resolution implies that\nthe war should not have taken place at all. Tamil Separatism was legitimate\n.The government of Sri Lanka must \ntherefore apologize for carrying out a war at all. There should be a\ncommission for Truth, Justice , reconciliation, reparation and non recurrence.\nThe inclusion of the term \u2018non recurrence \u2018 has not received the attention it should.\nIt means that the state should never again \nwage war against the Tamils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evidence of\nvictory should be removed as soon as possible. The Resolution speaks of  the removal of high security zones, the\nwithdrawing of the military from the north, return of land held by the military\nto its owners.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Resolution then\nturns to the conduct of the war. Those responsible for violating the rules of\nwar must be  investigated and punished,\nsaid the Resolution.  The Resolution implied\nthat the state army, from top to bottom, was guilty of  massive war crimes. That the government\nforces were at fault. Eelam War  IV  was \ntherefore      won by foul means.\nIt is not possible for Sri Lanka to be proud of this victory.  ( Continued)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
