{"id":96766,"date":"2019-12-23T16:15:23","date_gmt":"2019-12-23T23:15:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=96766"},"modified":"2019-12-23T16:15:23","modified_gmt":"2019-12-23T23:15:23","slug":"ccd-allowed-to-record-statement-from-pujith-on-champikas-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2019\/12\/23\/ccd-allowed-to-record-statement-from-pujith-on-champikas-case\/","title":{"rendered":"CCD allowed to record statement from Pujith on Champika\u2019s case"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy Ada Derana<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) has been granted permission by the court to record a statement from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara regarding the road accident involving former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IGP Pujith Jayasundara is currently under remand custody over a case on the Easter Sunday attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"CCD allowed to record statement from Pujith on Champika\u2019s case English\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pHEebQX6qho?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This order has been issued by the Colombo Magistrate\u2019s Court considering a request made to the court by the CCD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The request by the CCD stated that the name of IGP Jayasundara was revealed during the investigations on the alleged hit-and-run case involving MP Patali Champika Ranawaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, Officer-in-Charge of the Colombo Crimes Division Chief Inspector Neville Silva requested permission to record a statement from the remanded IGP on the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Accordingly, Colombo Additional Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama ordered the Prison Superintendent to allow the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to record a statement from the IGP at the Prison premises between the 26th and 30th December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further, the Additional Magistrate ordered several telecommunication companies to provide a report to the CCD on call details of 20 mobile phone SIM cards found during the investigation on the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka is currently under remand over an alleged hit-and-run case in 2016.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Courtesy Ada Derana Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) has been granted permission by the court to record a statement from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara regarding the road accident involving former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.
