{"id":97734,"date":"2020-01-14T07:24:12","date_gmt":"2020-01-14T14:24:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/?p=97734"},"modified":"2020-01-14T07:24:12","modified_gmt":"2020-01-14T14:24:12","slug":"ranjangate-scandal-ranjan-ramanayake-arrested-by-ccd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/2020\/01\/14\/ranjangate-scandal-ranjan-ramanayake-arrested-by-ccd\/","title":{"rendered":"RANJANGATE SCANDAL &#8211; Ranjan Ramanayake arrested by CCD"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Courtesy Ada Derana<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p>UNP Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake has been arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CCD officers had arrived at the MP\u2019s official residence in Madiwela, a short while ago, with an arrest warrant, Ada Derana reporter said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was subsequently taken into custody and taken away by in a police jeep by the officers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MP Ramanayake is expected to be produced before the court in a short while after a statement is recorded from him.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nugegoda Magistrate\u2019s Court issued an arrest warrant against Mr Ramanayake, a few hours ago, based on a request made by the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\u0dbb\u0d82\u0da2\u0db1\u0dca \u0dbb\u0dcf\u0db8\u0db1\u0dcf\u0dba\u0d9a \u0d85\u0dad\u0dca\u0d85\u0da9\u0d82\u0d9c\u0dd4\u0dc0\u0da7\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/os5Ab2dSTFs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Accordingly, the magistrate had ordered to arrest and produce the parliamentarian before the court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier today (14), the Attorney General directed the Director of the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) to obtain a warrant and arrest UNP MP Ramanayake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has also instructed the CCD to produce the parliamentarian before court for offences committed in terms of Article 111C (2) of the Constitution, for interference with the functions judges.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several controversial audio recordings containing telephone conversations between former State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake and several influential figures in the country had come to light recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phone conversations the MP purportedly had with certain judges as well as officials in the judicial service were among those recordings released thus far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u2018Sinhale\u2019 organization has filed several complaints with the Judicial Service Commission, seeking a comprehensive investigation into the involvement of judicial authorities in this matter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Courtesy Ada Derana UNP Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake has been arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).
