The\nstorm of protest against the CAA has severely affected the whole of India. This\nprotest in not limited only to India, it is spreading like a wild fire all over\nthe world. People are calling it one of the world\u2019s darkest discriminatory laws\nbased on religion. Even the Indian Constitution does not support such type of\nbrutal legislation. Social workers, members of different human rights\norganizations, teachers, writers, actors, students and even traders are\nexpressing their reservations over this new amendment. Bollywood actor Zeeshan\nAyub said criticizing the CAA, Everyone has been exposed and the common man\nhas understood everything and the right-wing people cannot make a fool out of\nthem by giving vague statements.\u201d He complained that even the BJP leaders are\nnot having any clear concept of this amendment; they are pushing the general\npublic into a blind alley of confusions. Zeeshan Ayub said talking to the ANI, The\nHome minister said something, the next day something else is being said in the\nRam leela; people are getting confused.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A\nrenowned Indian novelist Chetan Bhagat said criticizing the BJP government, All\nuniversities must be protected. Those who fantasize about India with a Hindu\nking and his subservient subjects must remember this; even if I dignified your\nbigotry (I don’t), you can’t wish 200 million Muslims away. Try that and India\nwill burn, GDP will crash and your kids will be unsafe and jobless. Stop these\nfantasies!\u201d The general secretary of All Assam Students\u2019 Union Lurin Jyoti Gogoi\nhas warned the BJP government that protest against the CAA would not stop\nunless the government reviews the amendment bill. He said, The movement in\nAssam will intensify, and the legal fight against the citizenship act will\ncontinue.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One\nof the most important positions-holders in the Microsoft Mr. Satya Nadella said\nspeaking at a Microsoft event for editors in New York I think what is\nhappening in India is sad, primarily as sort of someone who grew up there… I\nthink it’s just bad.\u201d BJP leaders have reacted in a very harsh manner on this\nstatement of the Microsoft Boss. Newspapers and TV channels are replete with\nthe resentment rather condemning statements of BJP leaders over the issue. BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi said in a tweet\nthat Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s statement on CAA is a \u2018perfect example\u2019 of How\nliterate need to be educated.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Narrow-mindedness\nand prejudice against the minorities in India, particularly against the Muslims\nand the Christians, is not a new trend and new behaviour. In the last week of\nDecember 2019, Delhi BJP vice-president Shazia Ilmi also had to face the same prejudice\nwhen she was not allowed to go on to the stage from where Prime Minister\nNarendra Modi addressed the gathering during his Sunday rally at Delhi’s\nRamlila Maidan. She complained that \u2018other\u2019 Delhi unit leaders were given the\npasses for the main stage. Analysts are of the opinion that she had to face\nthis discrimination just because she is a Muslim. Shazia Ilmi had been a very\nactive member of the Aam Aadmi Party till May 2014. Later on she left the AAP\nand joined the BJP. She has accused the senior leadership of BJP Delhi unit of\ndiscrimination and favouritism. According to the Media reports Ilmi expressed\nher anger saying that she felt humiliated as her pass was not made while the\nother office-bearers of Delhi unit were allowed on the main stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Situation\nis so tense there that the Modi government had to cancel a meeting with Japanese\nPrime Minister Shinzo Abe which was scheduled to take place this month in\nAssam\u2019s largest city Guwahati. The reason was nothing but the ongoing unrest in\nthe region. Assam is one of the seven states in India\u2019s northeast that share\nborders with Bangladesh, Myanmar and China. Recently introduced CAA bill has sparked\nviolent protests in Assam which has yet taken lives of two people and left 25\ninjured. Feeling the severity and gravity of the situation, the U.S. and\nBritish governments have urged their citizens to exercise caution\u201d if\ntraveling to India\u2019s northeast. Unfortunately, the BJP government is not\nfeeling the severity of the matter. No one seems willing to listen to the\nprotesting voices.
