Setting\nThe Scene: Threats to us and our survival<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

For true\nfreedom, people need transparency in all things. The fact is, for democracy\n(and freedom) to survive we need good information; we need to understand what\nis around us \u2013 our climate, our government and politics. When government hides\nthings or give us false information, our freedom is diminished. In fact, there\nare so many things we are not told. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For how\nmuch longer can human civilization survive? For seventy years we have been\nliving under the shadow of nuclear war.  Several times, we humans have come\nextremely close to final nuclear disaster, say military experts. We have\navoided total destruction by just a few minutes due to misunder-standing or\nhuman error, they say. When the doomsday clock of the Bulletin of National\nScientists was set last January at just two minutes to midnight, signifying\nthat is now the closest it has been to terminal disaster since the clock was\nset up in 1947. With the USA and Russia, armed with unstoppable hypersonic\nweapons, staring each other down, the world is facing total destruction. But it\nis not spoken about! It may even be suppressed! <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another\nthreat to our continued existence is global warming. It has been slowly getting\nhotter year by year over the last ten years and shows no signs of slowing down.\nExperts say it is the sun changing and warming our upper atmosphere \u2013 but\nassisted by our destruction of the Ozone layer, especially at the poles by our\nemissions of methane, carbon dioxide and other noxious gases. Changes are\nhappening and nobody knows where it will all end. All the other planets around\nus are bleak, bare of life \u2013 just infertile, dry rock. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A third\ndanger facing us all, is the threat from Earth\u2019s N-S Polar reversal. The\nEarth\u2019s magnetosphere provides us with protection from harmful solar and space\nradiation. This protection has fallen by 15% over the last ten years,\nindicating trouble ahead. A full reversal is when the North and South poles\nswitch positions. This is likely to be highly disruptive, causing mountainous\ntsunamis, violent earthquakes and high winds \u2013 another extinction event.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nfinal, knockout blow is delivered by the sun itself. All stars \u2018Nova\u2019 to a\ngreater or lesser extent. This is where they violently explode, sending tons of\nhot matter into space around them, frying and boiling all that is in the way.\nBad news – our sun \u2018micro-novas\u2019, too. NASA has seen the evidence on the moon.\nExperts are searching for the reasons for this but suspect that we cross the\nplane of our galaxy into dusty space. This dust accumulates on the surface of\nthe sun and causes a violent reaction.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those are\nterminal cataclysms, but there are others of lesser degree. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is\nthe danger from state tyranny to our freedom.  The price of freedom is\neternal vigilance. There is the grave danger facing the free world made by the\nworld\u2019s ruling elites who are busily undermining democracy. On one side is the\npolitical left, who secretly plan a \u2018New World Order\u2019 ruled by the United\nNations. On the other is the political right, who want, country by country, to\ninstall right-wing governments into power ruled by dictators, all for the\nbenefit of business! It is a fierce contest.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

They want\ndictators installed into power to implement their agendas of either the left or\nright, who can rule and imprison all those who oppose their rule. Donald Trump\nhas seriously upset the left\u2019s long-laid plans of re-organizing and oppressing\nthe common man. That explains the animosity directed towards him.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then,\nthere are the Islamists, who want a Caliphate to rule the world with Muslim\nSharia law, putting society back a thousand years. Extremists, idealists all,\nwould be happy to install such a state by Jihad or by terror.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or,\nirresponsible researchers playing with viruses which can unleash an epidemic,\nor other sources of a virus which is unstoppable and wipes us all out. Ebola,\nor artificial viruses may be unstoppable and lethal.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Little of\nthese threats named above get into the newspapers or on television \u2013\ngovernments want the common man to be kept in the dark, vulnerable to the\ndangers, but entertained by gossip and drama! With our heads empty of\nmeaningful thoughts, they can manipulate and control us like sheep and pigs,\nand profit from us, too.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How we,\nourselves, Undermine Democracy<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Philosophers\nsay we cannot have true freedom without personal moral constraint in a\ndemocratic society. The only truly free people are those that are ruled by\npersonal moral behavior. Democratic government can be very successful where a\npopulation is moral, but it will fail when good standards and practices decline\nand fall and good order in society breaks down.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

RULE:\nWhen unrestrained liberty leads to a loss of order, then the demand for order\nleads to a loss of liberty. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

EXPLANATION:\nIn the case of a society enduring moral anarchy, corruption and chaos, even\nbefore the arrival of a strong man, people are not truly free. They must be\nalert and on the defensive.    You can say that those who are\nunrestrained in behavior; by being corrupt and immoral, are destined to be\nruled by a tyrant. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

They\nmistakenly think it is necessary to install a strongman to restore order \u2013 a\njust man \u2013 if such a man can be found! But just men or tyrants have few tools\nin their tool box – when you only have a hammer \u2013 you see all problems as a\nnail to be hammered.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus,\nmoral anarchy, corruption and chaos can lead to dictators who have to use\nstrong-arm tactics to solve all the different problems. They have only one\nresponse to extreme problems – the police, jails and even torture and death. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nSuperiority of Reasoning and Moral Restraint<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Strong\nmen are a one-sided response to modern situations of chaos; but society is\nbetter reformed by reasoning, explanation and debate for problem solving. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore,\nthe only truly free people are those who are ruled by personal moral behavior.\nGood, educated people can reason and realize the importance of the best human\nqualities, trust, truth, moderation, an efficient system of law; recognizing\nwhat is good and beautiful and protecting it. There is a need to teach the\nconstituent aspects of a moral society. The Centre for Buddhism, Kandy, has a\nproject to do that by having orators to give talks and reason with Sri Lankan\npeople.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Democratic\nSociety based on Free, Unbiased Information<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Free\npeople need accurate, unbiased information with nothing held back by which to\nform opinions and understand events in this world. Freedom and good information\nare inseparable necessities for mankind.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is\nreality, not illusion or delusion that will determine what the future will\nbring. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately,\nthere are few TV. documentaries to educate and inform people. All we get is TV.\nnews which is severely limited to five minuits of news \u2013 supplying what one\nperson thinks are items of importance, all followed closely by advertising and\nTele-Dramas. They do not tell us of our dependence on the sun, its power and\ntreachery, nor do they give information of the factual, repeating planetary\ndisasters nor the true history of mankind. Without this, people cannot imagine\nsuch events. Many people have only limited awareness of news and events in the\nwider world.    The main media fails us and most people do not\ntrouble themselves to access smaller, better news providers. We live in a\nbubble of delusion. Then we act accordingly.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nlimited awareness of a fast moving, violent world should not be enough for any\nnormal, educated person. People need more facts about the sun and our planet\nand truths of political currents and form opinions about them. (For example,\nJulian Assange distributed information about the massive political corruption\nin the USA \u2013 so he is arrested and maybe sent to prison for life for revealing\nthe truth. Yes!)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fact\nis, we live in a turbulent world of man\u2019s inhumanity to man. Who would have\ndreamed that just before Easter this year, suicide bombers would change our\nsociety so deeply?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was\nthe French Revolution, the Cuban Revolution, the American Revolution, the\nrevolution in Nicaragua. The world seems peaceful, but in fact, like volcanoes,\nexplosions occur! \u2013 and driving these are the elites who plan for a New World\nOrder, or world dictatorships or even an Islamic Caliphate.  Be aware of\nall the dangers facing you!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A\nSuggested Definition of  \u2018Good\u2019 And \u2018Bad\u2019<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

\u2018GOOD\u2019 is defined as whatever is beneficial or brings social harmony and happiness to society. These actions are good Karma which brings its own good reward. This is important for progress along the \u2018Eight-fold Noble Path\u2019 towards a personal wisdom, peace and Nibbana.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \n\u2018BAD\u2019 is whatever action(s) or event(s) that result(s) in pain, harm, anger,\nconflict or causes disharmony in Buddhist society. This slows, hinders or even\nprevents people following their \u2018Eight-fold Noble Path\u2019 to self-development and\nwisdom. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most\nactions of people fall within these limits of \u2018GOOD\u2019 or \u2018not BAD\u2019 as defined.\nThis can also be seen as a way of minimizing society\u2019s overall unhappiness.\n(i.e. maximizing overall happiness in society). <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
