We know how many Sri Lanka\nArmed Forces personnel died or were injured during the final phase of the\nconflict but the problem lies in determining the dead LTTE and dead Tamil \u2018civilians\u2019.\nConfounding matters is that LTTE had a trained and armed civilian terrorist\nunit. These civilians dying during hostilities with the Sri Lankan Armed Forces\nCANNOT be categorized under civilian dead. Obviously ICRC, UN, UNHRC, OHCHR\n&amp; OISL and all entities on the ground during the conflict are shy to answer\nhow many LTTE died, how many civilian LTTE died and how many Tamil civilians\nwho had no role in hostilities died and more importantly how many of these\nTamil civilians were killed by LTTE or by Sri Lankan Armed Forces. Without\nbeing able to answer these fundamental questions no one has any right to credit\nall deaths to the Sri Lankan Armed Forces &amp; accuse them of war crimes. The\nBritish MPs writing on behalf of LTTE fronts in UK better have answers to these\nquestions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paul Scully MP as head of the All-Party\nParliamentary Group for Tamils has written to the British Foreign Secretary on\n29 January 2020 has sought clarification on 3 points related to Sri Lanka\u2019s conflict\nwhich ended in May 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>When &amp; how people died<\/li><li>How many of the missing are dead &amp; their details<\/li><li>Why Sri Lanka is withholding information.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/www.tamilguardian.com\/sites\/default\/files\/File\/APPGT\/200212%20APPGT%20letter%20to%20UK%20Foreign%20Sec.pdf\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Point 3 is important and certainly demands\nthe OMP and LLRC &amp; MOD to combine the names and prepare a master list of\nthe dead\/missing with details. But, it also necessitates Britain and all other\nforeign countries to come clean about the Tamil refugees\/asylum seekers in\ntheir countries as well. For all we know some of the missing, presumed dead may\nactually be alive and living in the UK, EU, Canada, Australia etc\u2026 we have very\nvalid reasons to claim this as the case of <strong>Kathiravel Thayapararaja, said to\nhave been tortured and killed by the Sri Lankan security forces on 13th\nSeptember 2009 (after LTTE defeat) but ended up very much alive when arrested\nby Indian police in 2014 (5 years later). So for 5 years the Sri Lankan Armed\nForces had been accused of killing Thayapararaja and NONE of the accusers saw\nfit to apologize to the Armed Forces &amp; Sri Lankan Government or correct\ntheir stories. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But who is MP Paul Scully \u2013 he may be head of\nthe APPG-Tamils but he was also speaking at the Mullivaikkal Remembrance Day\n2018 at the Reformer&#8217;s Tree, Hyde Park, London<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Paul Scully MP and the chair of APPG for Tamils\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uIUa1cKdak0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>What is noteworthy about the APPG-for Tamils\nis that its registered secretariat is the British Tamil Forum a group banned in\nApril 2014 at a LTTE Front using UNSC Resolution 1373 but had the ban removed\nfollowing the co-sponsored of UNHRC Resolution in September 2015 on a flimsy\nexcuse of \u2018reconciliation\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/publications.parliament.uk\/pa\/cm\/cmallparty\/180606\/tamils.htm\">https:\/\/publications.parliament.uk\/pa\/cm\/cmallparty\/180606\/tamils.htm<\/a>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What is also interesting is that the funding of All Party\nParliamentary Groups tracking millions of pounds was launched in 2017 and it\nwould interesting to find out who funds APPG-Tamils. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/ng-interactive\/2017\/jan\/06\/track-the-millions-of-pounds-given-to-all-party-parliamentary-groups\">https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/ng-interactive\/2017\/jan\/06\/track-the-millions-of-pounds-given-to-all-party-parliamentary-groups<\/a>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TERRORIST\nFRONT LOBBIES BRITISH POLITICIANS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/www.mfa.gov.lk\/terrorist-front-lobbies-british-politicians\/\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Let\u2019s\nnow keep to facts &amp; fundamentals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we go by official figures &#8211; <strong>complaints filed with the Presidential\nCommission of Missing Persons has only 23,586 as of 2017, of which 5000 are\nmissing Sri Lankan soldiers<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who\nare the 18,586 in the Missing Persons Commission<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>OMP\nmust release their names. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>2011\nLessons Learnt &amp; Reconciliation Commission Report declared 22,247 LTTE dead\nof which 11,812 had been identified by name<\/strong>. Has the remaining 10,435 LTTE\ndead been identified and are any of these names included in the OMP list? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The UN\nCountry Team report gave 7721 dead<\/strong> \u2013 have these names been identified<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The GoSL\nsurvey at end of conflict claimed 7400 dead <\/strong>\u2013 have these names been identified<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The\npopulation survey done by Tamil Teachers in July 2011 revealing 7896 dead<\/strong> \u2013 have these names\nbeen identified<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CAN THOSE\nWHO CLAIM 40,000 to 100,000 to even 200,000 submit the names of the dead?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But we can piece the puzzle of the missing or\ndead if the foreign governments helped by disclosing names of Tamil refugees\/asylum\nseekers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When LTTE retreated they took a lot of Tamils\nto be used later as human shields &amp; hostages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The appeals by UNSG, UNSC and diplomats to\nLTTE to release Tamil civilians is proof of this. That LTTE shot and killed\nTamils fleeing is also nothing the UN system &amp; diplomats can deny. The\nquestion is HOW MANY TAMILS who tried to flee did LTTE kill? These deaths\ncannot be credited to the Sri Lanka Army account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lankaweb.com\/news\/items\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/images-104.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-98463\" width=\"466\" height=\"287\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CATEGORIZING\nMISSING TAMILS BY NUMBERS &amp; IDENTIFYING THEM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>How many Tamils were forcibly taken by LTTE <\/li><li>How many Tamils were forcibly taken by LTTE &amp; killed for\ndisobeying LTTE<\/li><li>How many Tamils were forcibly taken by LTTE, made to\nfight &amp; died fighting <\/li><li>How many Tamils fighting for LTTE in civilian clothing\nwere left to die or shot by LTTE when injured to prevent them disclosing details\nto Sri Lanka Armed Forces<\/li><li>How many LTTE fighters who were injured were killed by\nLTTE (ex: put into buses &amp; exploded)<\/li><li>How many Tamils did LTTE bury without informing their\nparents?<\/li><li>How many unidentifiable LTTE fighters who died during\nfighting were not accepted by LTTE when ICRC wanted to hand over bodies to them\nand had to be buried by Sri Lanka Army (none of these can be categorized as\ncivilians)<\/li><li>How many Tamils fled the country &amp; where did they\nflee too?<\/li><li>How many Tamils are using UN cards &amp; buying time to\ngain residence in countries?<\/li><li>How many Tamils applying as asylum seekers\/refugees are\nkept secret by foreign govts for geopolitical arm twisting against Sri Lanka. <\/li><li>How many Tamils who were not involved in hostilities died\ndue to collateral damage as a result of both LTTE &amp; Sri Lanka Armed Forces\nexchanging fire <\/li><li>How many are intentionally hiding and living under a\nbogus name but are claiming to be \u2018missing\u2019 in order for their families to\nclaim compensation?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"LTTE caught shooting civilians trying to escape their area.\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-bZr3FgncKw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>LTTE caught shooting civilians trying to escape their area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Can all those accusing Sri Lanka\u2019s armed\nforces of war crimes give figures and names of<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>LTTE killed in uniform<\/li><li>LTTE killed in civilian clothing<\/li><li>LTTE civilian armed unit killed in combat <\/li><li>Tamil civilians forced to fight for LTTE &amp; dying\nduring hostilities<\/li><li>Tamil civilians trying to flee killed by LTTE <\/li><li>Tamil civilians who had no role in hostilities dying from\nLTTE fire<\/li><li>Tamil civilians who had no role in hostilities dying from\nSri Lanka Armed Forces fire. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Only those who can supply proper evidence to above questions can accuse Sri Lankan Armed Forces of any war crimes \u2013 otherwise as a Nation we refuse to accept fairy tales and we will not allow our National Army be defined as war criminals for no reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Shenali\nD Waduge<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We need a closure.
