By Walter Jayawardhana reporting from Los Angeles

A young wife of an Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) cadre was seriously wounded in a bank when her cellular phone exploded while she tried to answer the phone, according to Police sources in Jaffna.

Police strongly suspect LTTE involvement in this terrorist act.According to a statement the victim made to the police she lost her cell phone somewhere on Stanley Road in Jaffna and a young man handed over the phone claiming he found it. Few moments later it rang and she attempted to answer the phone when it exploded injuring her seriously.

The LTTE website Tamil Net said the incident happened at a location between the EPDP office at Srithar Theatre and an Army camp at Wellington Theatre junction, June 16 at 10.15 a.m..
The girl identified as Arul Dinesh Poosa was admitted to the Jaffna teaching hospital for treatment under the protection of the Sri Lanka Army.

Police sources said the exploded cell phone has been sent to the government analyst for inspection.
Hundreds of EPDP cadres have been killed and maimed by the LTTE ever since the LTTE entered into a controversial ceasefire agreement with the former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe disarming all other Tamil groups making them vulnerable to LTTE attacks.
