SRI LANKAN MODEL TEENAGED STUDENT MURDERED IN TORONTO BY A GANG OF TEENAGERS

A former student of D.S.Senanayaka College, Colombo, Akila Badhanage (16) who migrated to Canada with his parents five years ago has been murdered in Toronto , September 28 ,sources close to his family said.

The Toronto Police made repeated announcements over the City TV appealing to possible eyewitnesses to identify a gang of teenage murderers who committed the crime on the Sri Lankan teenager.

A bright student who obtained straight A’s at the North Park Secondary School of Brampton Toronto, Akila was scheduled to attend a university fair at the Toronto Convention Center soon to select a university and pursue his higher studies soon.

A gang of black teenagers are suspected of attempting a robbery on the deceased to snatch his cellular phone before being stabbed to death by the gang who were high on drugs, sources close to the family of the deceased said.

But the Toronto police in their bulletin called it “a random act of violence”and said the Peel Regional Police has said they were unable to find a motive of the attack. The crime had taken place near Dixie Road and Howden Boulevard in Brampton.

According to the police Akila, ‘a nice young man and model student” was stabbed while being swarmed by a group of four or five teens on Lord Simcoe Drive in the same city.

The police further said the victim was pronounced dead at hospital and he was on his way from school to his part time job when he was attacked. The police further said they were looking for four or five black males who may have been running from the scene. Police said anyone having information on his attack has been asked to call police at 905-453-2121 ext 3205 or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS-/8477.

Son of Mr. and Mrs, Nihal and Indra Badhanage the deceased was the eldest brother of two other siblings and a native of Ratnapura.

According to the family sources he had run after being stabbed complaining difficulty of breathing and fallen close to a bus halt bleeding. He was employed by the Tim Horton Coffee Shop. The police has found a suspected murder weapon in a backyard of a house close by.
