UK,USA, and EU not wanting to have LTTE terrorists at their door steps in addition to Al-Queida, call Sri Lanka Government to negotiate with terrorists.

By Charles Perera

Judas Iscariot sold Jesus for 37 pieces of silver. In Sri Lanka, a modern day Judas sells his leader and friend for less than that. The Judas of Sri Lanka sells his leader because he was denied his ministerial portfolio.

That was infact the fault of the President Mahinda Rajapakse, to have placed confidence in a weakling merely because he brought in the JVP to assure a majority votes for his election as the President. The President should have been grateful for his role in the Presidential Election Campaign, but no to the extent to make him a key Minister of his government.

This is the fault in the show of gratitude by the Sinhala people. They feel that they are greatly indebted to whatever kindness is shown to them to extent, that they do not stop thanking them or accord favour far in excess of the services rendered to them. Mangala Samaraweera should have perhaps been given a deputy Minister’s post which does not carry much responsibility. Now we see the error. He cannot even understand the gravity of the statements he makes to foreign journalists.

Not even an ordinary educated person, let alone an ex -Foreign Minister, and the organiser of a supposed to be more progressive SLFP, would have made the assertion that Sri Lanka needs some type UN surveillance of violations of human rights .

There are real violation of human rights in the countries from which the promoters of human rights, have come to Sri Lanka. There is violation of human rights in Iraq, Afghanistan, and in many other places in the globe. In that situation why should UN control human rights violations in Sri Lanka. If it is the conflict with the terrorists and the government's effort to find and end to terrorism that causes the UN and the International Community to believe there is violations of human rights in Sri Lanka, they are merely jumping to conclusions.

If they believe that the retaliatory military action and liberating the innocent Tamil population that had been kept prisoners by the LTTE terrorists, is violation of human rights, what have they got to say about America invading Iraq on a bogus search of weapons of mass destruction. In that war it was proved that Blair had produced false documents to show the presence of WMD:

“In addition, members of Congress and Parliament, as well as potential political opponents and outside observers have criticized the use of intelligence by the Bush and Blair administrations. Charges have included outright distortion, selective use of intelligence, and exertion of political pressure to influence the content of intelligence estimates in order to provide support to the decision to go to war with Iraq” Electronic Briefing Book No.80.

“The Prime Minister Tony Blair and his government have lied to the British people in order to wage war in Iraq and this irresponsible action has resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent individuals. These lies were fashioned over a year ago and formed the basis of the government’s September dossier in 2002 and Tony Blair’s speech to Parliament on the 24th of the same month. The crux of the false allegations is that Iraq had Weapons of Mass Destruction and was therefore a threat to both her neighbours in the Middle East and the Western world. “ Three of the lies were statements made by Tony Blair to Parliament. The fourth is a “lie” of omission.” (http://www.banthebomb.org/archives/peace/Tonylies.htm)

There is enough material in the internet to bring both USA and UK before an International Court of Law for providing false intelligence information to enable them to go to war in Iraq. These are the people who now try to accuse Sri Lanka of human rights violations, merely because it is carrying
out an effective military campaign to flush out terrorism from Sri Lanka. It irks the International Community, USA, UK and UN, as they made out that military option cannot end terrorism in Sri Lanka, and said sans cesse,....both parties should begin negotiations.

Having been wrong in their judgement of the situation, and now seeing that the military option is after all showing positive results, the UN, USA, UK and the International Community are all out to end the war and bring the parties to negotiate. These hypocrites, the so called world powers, are more frightened, that if they do not show clemency towards the LTTE terrorists, LTTE terrorists may export their more able suicide bombers to UK, USA, and the capitals of Europe. It is therefore in their own interest not to have to deal with another terrorist group in addition to Al Queida, that drives them to make out that Sri Lanka is violating human rights in a fruitless military action against terrorism.

In this situation the Mangala Samarawickrama –the Judas of the SLFP Majority faction’s comments are dangerous, uncalled for, and stupid. If the good people of Matara take time to evaluate this man Samaraweerea, they will see him as a danger to independence and sovereignty of Sri Lanka . They should therefore, call for his resignation from the Parliament.
