An " Iron Curtain" like that of the ex- USSR, is after all not a bad idea to keep away the interfering elements.

by Charles Perera

We now understand why USSR had the iron curtain, to keep away the interfering Western pseudo democrats. We are supposed to have won independence from the colonial rulers, but in their minds we are still there Colonies. Holms is one such colonial mouth piece. But there want be an end to them in some form or other until the world order changes and a balance of power is re-established. The West tried to infiltrate into China through the CIA getting round the Chinese students to demonstrate against the Government in Tienanmen. Luckily for China it was able to nip it in the bud. Had it succeeded China want be the economic power that it has become to-day. The western Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International , the NGOs, the whole lot of them would have divided China into little provinces as they did to USSR. In ex-USSR, the West managed to rope in Boris Yeltsin a political leader who was going against the system, as Ranil Wickramasinghe is doing in Sri Lanka, and fooled Mikhail Gorbachev to lift the iron curtain to establish friendly relations with the West. That was the beginning of the end of ex-USSR.

The West is a master at the game of splitting up nations, they had been doing it ever since they started colonization of countries. The West-the International Community knows that despite their chorus song " both parties should return to peace negotiations", Sri Lanka Government is gaining ground against terrorism without any technical or material help from the West. They would not like to stand that, they will do their utmost to get the government to give a reprieve from the assault against the terrorists, to allow them to build its anti government forces. This is what they are trying to do in Burma-Myanmar. The International Community, with Ban Ki Moon, and the Human Rights Watch etc. is doing their best to infiltrate in to Burma , and Burma has wisely turned a deaf ear to their charges and complaints.

It may perhaps be wise to resort to an "Iron Curtain" in Sri Lanka, until continued retaliatory actions, will end terrorism. We could then keep away the NGOs, Evans , and Holmses, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, Free Media, the whole heap of supposed to be do gooders. We can get the Ranils, Kiriellas, Mangalas, Chandrikas, house arrested !!! It is only an opinion. The Free Media complains about government not protecting the media. But if they are genuine they should warn the news papers against publishing false reports, twisted to bring discredit to the Government. A recent letter to the press by Mr. Anandasagaree states how the Times of Ceylon had made a wrong report about the President 's effort to form another poltical Group to contest elections in the East, side tracking the Karuna Group. This is only one such instance of misinterpretation of intentions.

What good is Ranil Wickramasinghe doing ? He is doing nothing good for himself nor for the country. He seems to have lost all sense of responsibility that is required of a leader of the opposition, who is a possible alternative to the President elect of Sri Lanka. He is making an international political clown of himself. Political leaders have public meetings to tell the people what is wrong with the Government and make constructive proposals, and suggest corrective measures. They do not go round writing letters to Banks asking them not to give loans to the Governments, and get green clad men and women to shout before the Banks against their giving loans to the Government. Least of all they do not use the Buddha's teachings to vilify their opponents.

The criticism is good but personal criticism against the President and his brothers is a bit too much . Ranil Wickramasinghe with slogans against families , is turning out to be some sort of a political mafia leader claiming vengeance against a family, who it seems to him has stolen his right to be the President. What is of paramount importance today is not so much the high cost of living and price hikes. But, to put an end to terrorism that is an obstacle to progress at all levels. That would help Ranil Wickramasinghe, if by some chance with the help of JVP he would win the next Presidential elections.
