Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga did receive an invitation to participate in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s 56th Anniversary sessions but she had a grudge with a former General Secretary of the party whom she couldn’t stand , the former head of state who returned to the island from a London self exile to get involved in right wing politics said.

.“ The invitation said that a special speech will be delivered by Suriyaperuma. I did not want to attend the SLFP convention to listen to him,” she said giving excuses for not attending the convention at the Bandaranaike International Conference Hall in Colombo of the party she once presided over.
Apparently exaggerating harsh criticism by her former critic J. R. P. Suriyapperuma years before and who also spoke as a guest speaker praising the role of Mahinda Rajapaksa at the convention for dawning a revolutionized new progressive phase of the nation Chandrika Kumaratunga said , the former General Secretary of the SLFP criticized her in raw filth in the 1994 General Elections.

According to the former President , she is also having a grudge against President Mahinda Rajapaksa also for removing her from party leadership and all those grievances were expressed in an interview broadcast by Sirasa TV, a private Television channel.

She said it was illegal for President Rajapaksa to remove her from party leadership while she was in a self-exile in London and said for the love of the party she was not going into litigation over the matter.

This is the second time she has decided not to go into litigation over a matter , according to her, that damaged her.

Earlier she was threatening to go into litigation against her former ally, Victor Ivan, the editor of The Ravaya, who wrote a book describing her as a Queen of Thieves. But that idea was also dropped by her for unknown reasons.

Immediately after her arrival in Sri Lanka she immediately entered active politics by starting her campaign for pro-UNP politics by approaching certain SLFP organizers and appealing them to support the Ranil-Mangala coalition.

She also discussed her future political plans with UNP leader Ranil Wickramesinghe who met her at her official residence.

While drifting towards the UNP , in the Sirasa interview Chandrika Kumaratunga charged that the present leadership of the party is deviating from the accepted SLFP principles and lamented, “How could I attend the same conference addressed by J.R.P. Suriyapperuma.”
