Death of TamilSelvam is not the end of Terrorism.

By Charles Perera

Death of Tamilselvam is not the end of terrorism. There is still a long way to go. Despite Blakes, Chilcotts, Holmes, Arbours, and Martins the only solution to terrorism in Sri Lanka is the military solution. The foreigners have their own solution to problems, but they do not understand the real implications. Take for instance the case of the French NGOs wanting to save children from Darfour, by finding them families of adoption in France. That is the type of solutions the wise European NGOs could think of. It is better leave the NGOs, human right activists, diplomats, UN advisers, and the rest on the way side, and do what we think is the best.

The terrorists want the pound of flesh - a separate Eelam, and the Government says we will allow devolution of political power within a unitary Sri Lanka. The conflict between the terrorists and the Government lies there. No amount of negotiations is going to change the terrorists from accepting any solution less than a separate Eelam, nor will the Government accede to give them a separate Eelam. That the wise International Community cannot understand and will not want to understand, and will keep on saying in chorus that, "both parties should negotiate for a peace settlement".

Therefore, as the International Community and their lackeys do not seem to understand the issue, the government has to go ahead with the military solution. The Sri Lanka Government has already gone three fourth of the way to settle the terrorist problem, and should continue the rest of the way to finish what it had started- like the caravan despite the barking of the mangey dogs.

What is remarkable with the President Mahinda Rajapakse is that despite UNP friendly JVP, and Terrorist friendly UNP, and the very Buddhist Mangala Samaraweera's two man party, putting stumbling blocks before the path the President is taking, he continues with determination and firm conviction that he has taken the correct path, and goes on without deviating towards the goal he had set. The Nation should be proud of him and wish him all success, and rally round him to encourage his determined effort.

The President's conviction of his ultimate victory lies in the very heroic Security Forces who from the air, sea and the ground with matchless strength push the terrorists from disaster to disaster. It is usual that there are impediments, or getting caught in traps but the end result would be a victory for the President, and the Security Forces led by the able Officers.
