Federalism a trap that will lead to disaster.

By Legionary

With the imminent destruction of the LTTE, the good old 'F' word is back like never before in our vocabulary!

Federalism here is a big joke really. Federalism is something which is supposed to bring people of different religions, language, race, culture and geography together.

We're going to be implementing it to divide us, by handing over 40% of the Nation to one ethnic group which makes up less than 10% of the population, and where more than half of that same ethnic group do not live in the 40% of territory that is to be given to them. Thus subverting and destroying the very concept of Federalism.

Some time back i saw a draft to the current APRC proposal (on Lanka Academic forum and the Island newspaper). Another joke. Not only does that document have the most retarded clause in all of history: "a Tamil and Muslim Vice President" or as stated in the second version of the APRC: "two Vice Presidents from the ethnic groups which the President is not of", it is also something which the great preacher of democracy, the United States, itself does not have. The APRC proposal intends to empower ethnicity; basically its idea of a "solution" to an undefined and elusive problem is to power up the minorities at the expense of the majority.

The APRC basis is to go back to pre-1948 set up, where the Majority will thus once more be discriminated and denied rights in order to "to keep the peace" and please the minorities, so they will not kill us. So much so for democracy, when it is sold out for violence.

The APRC even has "provisions" in it which will maintain the ethnic composition in the North and the East (i.e. keep those two provinces Tamil only) while enabling Tamils freedom of movement everywhere else in the country. Essentially it is going to LEGALISE what already exists, where Sinhalese cannot go into the North or the East and do not have freedom of movement in their own country.

Where are the self-proclaimed champions of "Human Rights" over this new "positive" discrimination which these organisations Governments are planning to force us to follow? In fact where were they 200-300 years ago? Oh how could we forget, these champions of "Human Rights" are histories biggest violators of the very same human rights they preach. These organisation and Governments have no right to suddenly draw a line in the sand and say "from this point on we are going to vilify, insult, deprive and attack others about a concept we never believed in and brake all the time when it furthers our interests".

"Human Rights" is also one of the building blocks behind the Federalist camp.

Of course we will have to get rid of the LTTE before or after such a drastic change.

The last time we had a political solution (The Indo-Lanka Accord, something we were again forced to accept) while the LTTE was still in existence and had actually been saved because of this solution and Indian intervention which preceded it, Sri Lanka and the majority community of Sri Lanka were the only ones to hold onto and loyally follow every clause, while India and the LTTE (the other signatories to the accord) openly flouted it and did not fulfil their obligations.

Twenty years on and we are still at war. Which is what the Indians wanted to achieve from the Accord anyway, the current status quo, no war no peace and no clear winner, all of which helps further the Indians.

This is what happens when we put someone else’s interests ahead of our own.

Indeed that is what Federalism is about, putting someone else's interest ahead of ours. So, if we accept it (or any other solution) without proper time, thought and consultation, we will then bicker and become divided over its merits, while our resources both human and material would have been covertly sold out to same people who's interests we put first and ideas "for peace" we accepted.

Which is why they are so bothered about are "well being", they have something to gain at no risk to themselves. Least we forget the pronouncements of the Americans that the LTTE is no threat to them. If they were then they would take a radically different approach as we can see from what has happened in the past when they have been threatened.

The biggest fear amongst the Majority community, who will be the ones to benefit the least from such solutions (APRC proposal and Federalism), or whatever names an arrangement is given to magically solve all our problems, will be that these solutions which are borderline to ridiculous, will only lead to secession by the minorities.

Not only will such an eventually defeat the whole purpose behind the sacrifice the Majority would be making by accepting the very solution which lead to this scenario, it will be defiling and insulting the sacrifices we have made during the last 30 years of war, and the last 2,500 years of our history where we have unquestionably and uncompromisingly defended this land ensuring it has no borders.

If Federalism is adopted at this moment with the LTTE in existence, the LTTE and the "International Community" will shove some kind of peace down our throats once more. The LTTE will say with great enthusiasm "we are willing to accept Federalism and are ready for peace talks" to the applauding of the International Community and then, once we are in this trap a CFA type era will repeat, taking us back be back to war later on.

If the LTTE is destroyed and we do adopt Federalism, within 30 years we'll be back to war again, as Federalism adopted for Sri Lanka by the worlds power makers and others within and out of Sri Lanka, keeps the doors open for separatism because of its very nature.

That is why Federalism, in truth is nothing more than neo-Eelamism.

We must never accept a solution, which is rushed, forced and puts someone else's interests ahead of us, because doing so will only bring more bloodshed and pain to our people keeping us trapped in a cycle of violence, political strife and economic destitution, ensuring suffering for generations. History has shown us what happens when this is done. We must learn from it and avoid repetitions. Let history be our guide.
