KARU JAYASURIYA TELLS LANKA’S PARLIAMENT THAT UNP IS ATTEMPTING TO USE LTTE BRIBES TO BUY MP’S

By Walter Jayawardhana

Minister of Public Administration and leader of the United National Party Democratic Wing Karu Jayasuriya raising a parliamentary privileges issue in the House before the speaker said the United National Party (UNP) using Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) money is involved in an attempt to buy over government parliamentarians of his party group.

In a dramatic revelation before the House, the very sober parliamentarian who has a history of not making sensational statements in the past said, an accused of the assassination of the former Foreign Minister Laxman Kadiragamar, Charles Ganakoon is currently engaged in this attempt going as the agent of the United national Party (UNP) and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

Both in California and Australia the two Gnanakoon brothers (Cpt.) Charles Gnankoon and Jayantha Gnanakoon have worked as LTTE activists.

Spending a long time as a remand prisoner as the main suspect of the Kadirgamar assassination Charles was released for lack of evidence.

Speaking amidst constant interruptions by the United National Party parliamentarians, Karu Jayasuriya said he received reliable information about this attempt to buy over government parliamentarians using LTTE money through his own colleagues who had been approached by the UNP and LTTE agent.

He said at a times when the government was defeating the LTTE terrorism it was an utmost contemptible act on the part of the UNP leadership to engage LTTE agents to break the government.

He said it would go into the history as the most traitorous act in Sri Lanka’s history.
Jayasuriya said he was not at all racist simply because one could not select one’s race. But he said he was definitely against an insensate terrorist group who would pay any price or bribe to anybody to reach its criminal goals.
