PRESIDENT RAJAPAKSA TELLS PEOPLE THAT IT WAS DEDICATED TO WIPE OUT TERRORISM SOON FROM THE NORTH TOOBy Walter JayawardhanaPresident Rajapaksa said in Trincomalee that the government is dedicated
to wipe out the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) practiced terrorism
from the island nations Northern Province as the government did that
job in the Eastern Province. To bring about permanent peace to this country the government
is dedicated to chase out the terrorists from the Northern Province
soon, like they were chased out from the Eastern Province , assured
Rajapaksa addressing a newly opened apparel factory of the Tri Star
Apparel Manufactures at Thambalagamuwa . Part of the Presidential speech
was broadcast by the state owned Independent Television Network (ITN)
in Sinhala language. According to both military and independence sources heavy fighting
is occurring around the Barrons Cap mountain which is popularly known
as the Thoppigala Mountain and the last enclave of the Tigers there
is about to fall, has become a foregone conclusion, sources say. A large number of Muslims participated in the ceremony One Muslim leader
of the area Mubarak Alhaj Abdul Majeed wrapped a beautiful silk shawl
around President Rajapaksa. Tri Star owner Kumara Devapura , who was
very close to the late President R. Premadasa was also present in the
ceremony President Rajapaksa was quoted having said that he was planning to
bring in many foreign investors to develop the Eastern Province since
the government was very keen to inaugurate many industries in the East
to alleviate the rural poverty and solve their unemployment, a problem
untouched by any government over a decade. Earlier back in Colombo , addressing a conference of Buddhist monks the President said it was the duty of the government to implement the mandate of the people and the Buddhist monks given to this government to wipe out terrorism in both the Eastern Province and Northern Province. But enemies of the government have started so called human rights campaign based on distorted facts. The agitation carried out against the government he said could be easily categorized as cooked up evidence. He said it was he who started a human rights agitation when poor youth
of the South were killed in extrajudicial acts of the government and
burnt under pyres of used tires on public roads. He said the very people
who were responsible for such atrocities were now shouting bogus human
rights cries when no one could show even an iota of evidence that even
the smallest fraction of what happened then was happening today against
the Tamils. The President said when the government was engaged in a
movement to eradicate terrorism the false cries were made as a means
to stop the governments legitimate acts. |
