Devi Weeratunga died at the age of 95 at the National Hospital Colombo
, June 5 where she was ailing for some time. She was the first female vocalist who was graded an A Grade singer by Professor Rathnajankar of India together with W.D. Amaradeva the male vocalist then known as W.D. Albert Perera who also received the same grade at an audition held in 1950 for the then Radio Ceylon, later renamed the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. Some of her most popular hits were Jaliya Krishna Jina, Mawpiya Adee,Sripathi
Srihari Vishnu Devinda, Low Pura Budu Paramee Dinu etc |
