LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL

ASOKA S.

Since 1983 when the brutal war led my maniac Prabhakaran broke lose there has been many instances that Lanka appeared to have come close to eliminating the LTTE. Almost all of them were political hype. At last though military victories by the Rajapaksha administration seem to be the real deal. Here is why.

Never before has the world opinion been so in favor of the GOSL. Despite civilian casualties, despite occasional arm chair European human rights clerks living in 5 star hotels and dictating to a poor troubled nation, despite lack of support from big brother India, the world finally seem to have realized the true nature of the LTTE. They are blood thirsty killers who are also masters of deceit. But guess what? Many of the deceit masters are vanishing from mother earth finally. Some with chronic illnesses, some as unlucky victims of bunker busters, and many at the receiving end of the brave Lankan soldiers gun and the bomb.

The military and political strategy is working. Smart generals led by smart political leaders with genuine desire to eliminate the LTTE. Historically in Sri Lanka it has always been southern leaders who led Lanka into victory against South Indian invaders and this time it is the same except that the foe is a hell bent megalomaniac who happens to be a Tamil. The world is coming to realize the true colors of the LTTE killer machine. The biggest winner of the final annihilation of the LTTE will be the northern Tamil people who have been deprived of a generation worth of peaceful life. Instead Prabhakaran has brought them misery and death.

History has proven that countries who went through long drawn wars eventually entered a period of huge economic boom. The resources that went for a war would now go to build a nation. Lanka is in the verge of such a boom. There is no going back. Rajapaksha administration should continue to push hard into north and get Prabhakaran. With Prabhakaran's elimination the LTTE will disintegrate just like what happened to Wijeweera's JVP and Hitler's Nazi movement.

Yes, cost of living is high. Things are hard for the people. Some of these hikes are purely out what is happening in the world with crude oil prices reaching a $100 mark a barrel etc. Without being a national jerk, Ranil should join hands with Rajapaksha to eliminate the LTTE who has been holding our poor nation's progress to satisfy his lunatic tendencies. He should stop all protest to win a cheap election victory for now and extend all his fullest support to end the war. That is what leaders are all about. Remember Rajapaksha was given a mandate by Lankan people to rule for 6 years and that is a fact. He is our democratically elected President.

Asian continent is fast turning into the global growth center with India and China joining hands to create the all mighty Chindia economic block with massive growth and opportunity for their people. Lanka with its smart, educated and enterprising people cannot afford to miss out on these opportunities from Chindia and remain the poor small brother. We as a nation are too good to remain poor.

It is time to leave the matters to the Rajapaksha administration with all our support. This goes to the once mighty UNP too who under Ranil has reduced to a laughing stock. Let the President do the job the Lankan people empowered him to do. So far his record has been impressive.
