Beware of Sri Lankans claiming "Help Tsunami Victims"

During the past two years I have had many requests to support Tsunami Victims of Sri Lanka.

In my own modest and simple way I did what I could do, by collecting clothes, used equipment such as TVs, cookers, dish washers, irons, pumps, water boilers etc from friends and well wishers. Such collections were eagerly and promptly collected by my Sri Lanka contacts promising that the goods would be consolidated and shipped 3-4 times per year.

Yes. Charity begins at Home, they say. Shipped to Sri Lanka to their friends and family who selected the best of the lot both for their own personal use and for sale. This has become a business, nothing to do with charity!

Some of the better quality goods remained with the European residents of Sri Lankan origin, for their own use or for sale in Small Adverts in the local rags.

From what I heard, even some of the well-known, well healed political figures squandered the goods and funds sent to Sri Lanka by global well wishers.

Another scam doing its rounds, is the "young girl or boy suffering from an illness". Collecting funds and God knows where the funds end up in. A better car for the wife or an extention to the semi-detached home?

Scams such as this is nothing but pure Greed. And Greed has no end!
