MARVELLOUS MARVAN EXPOSE MUFFETS AND JOKERS-MAKE HASHAN TILAKERATNE CHIEF OF SELECTORS

By M D P DISSANAYAKE

It takes a bold man to tell the truth which many of us have known for quite sometime. Marvan Atapattu exposed the lack of direction in Sri Lankan cricket, after remaining silent for so long, since the World Cup. We should admire his courage, character similar to that of Arjuna Ranatunga to give a good fight when unjustifiable and discriminatory steps are being taken by the decision makers.

Sri Lanka was a fine team under Arjuna Ranatunga. AR worked so hard to develop new talents and fight for what was right. This is exactly what Marvan has done. One should feel sorry for Marvan as to how he has kept his thoughts boiling inside, for so long. But in the interest of the game, he perhaps could not restrain himself anymore. Marvan should be given his job back, as skipper of Sri Lankan team. We need a strong man, like AR, to put things right.

Hashan Tillekeratne has all the credential to be good selector. HT himself had been given a bad run by the cricket administrators, together with Upul Chandana, another victim.

HT will bring new direction and authority to the Sri Lankan Cricket.
