A Budget Defeat Will Only Strengthen The Presidents Hand And Depose His Enemies!

© Hindsight by Sarath Kumar For LankaWeb - Dec.13th 2007

Perhaps the doomsday predictions on the second budget vote which will be taken on the 14th December 2007, just a day away will turn out in the best interests of the Rajapaksha Administration after all.

While Some predict it will be doomsday for the Government. And a certain Mr. Lal Kantha of the JVP ( where are those vociferous JVP platform clarions Somawansa Amerasinghe and Wimal Weerasinghe one wonders?) is alleged to have suggested to the media that the Government will be stopped for good. This might not necessarily be the case as electing another Government primarily involves the voting public rather than the trade unions and the two faced political turncoats such as Hakeem and Thondaman whose defections to the opposition albeit detrimental in a head count towards carrying the all important second reading of the Budget is no major cause for alarm beyond the related inconveniences which are bound to follow. The failure to carry the vote of approval of the budget may topple the Government but if the JVP and the UNP believe they can carry another general election to victory they probably have another thought coming and are totally diillussioned.

Sri Lanka is a nation whose Post British era political history has been intermittently linked to the perceptions of its voting public like most other cognizant, discerning and literate nations and if the image of the Nation's Leadership is revered and adulated in like manner of the present President who has instilled more good to the Nation than the bad he is accused of, the ambits of the opposition to regain parliamentary superiority could turn out to be a huge dissapointment where in another election there Rajapaksha led SLFP could probably win an overall majority on the sound basis that the Nation hates turncoats and betrayers and realises that the Rajapaksha Administration has proved that the most important aspect of its tenure is the manner in which together with the Armed Forces the terrorist threat has been reduces to a minimum and that they are on the verge of elimination. Subsequent to this there are positive signs that the Nations other woes such as its burgeoning cost of living, its gross national income generating areas as well as its economic infrastructure which has taken a severe beating as a result of terrorism will definitely improve.

Apparently in the absence of the likes of the usual vociferous proclamations of Amerasinghe and Weerawansa who seem to be mulling their decisions about how they will vote on the second Budget Reading perhaps with confused trepidations and a conscience issue, the new JVP mouthpiece Lal Kantha and his ilk whose mentalities and actions suggest a split within the ranks of the JVP seem to be making hay in organising a campaign as quoted in a recent report which suggests that "there are opportunistic, anti-national forces colluding to defeat the Government, citing bogus economic negatives of the budget and “Shylock type” worker union demands on which their sole survival is totally dependant. " This cannot be refuted as hearsay nor can it be condoned as patriotism as it attests to the lowest level of betrayal by one time loyalists and needs to be condemned to damnation that it exposes the yellow underbelly of those conniving to topple the Government for all the wrong reasons of which personal agendas, the greed for power and self centered idealogies stand out!

Quoting a very relevant insert by fellow columnist Sisira Perera of Panadura, "It has to be recognized that the war against the mendacious LTTE terrorists has reached new heights. The Armed forces are being deftly lead by veteran leaders in the battlefront and, like never before in the 25-year-old LTTE menace, the present Government has given thorough political backing to the army to plan and destroy Velupillai Prabhakaran’s psychopathic Eelam dream. He is left with no option than to shut all his masquerades on surface and go subterranean in the Wanni jungles pleading with the international community. He is looking towards the heaven for some solace to save his pathetic head." and to all intents and purposes the LTTE supporters must surely now believe that this solace could come if the present administration were toppled but this is where they are totally wrong!

Voting in parliament to defeat an all important motion does not constitute the overall universal franchise of the people of Sri Lanka whose allegiances to the present administration at the present despite all the anti government propaganda appear to be etched in stone and unshakeable and perhaps a rude shock awaits the adversaries of the Rajapaksha Administration.

While another General Election becomes a very complex, unnecessary and exorbitant issue in the current political and economic climate of Sri Lanka it coud also be the overall solution to the burning issue of an imperative need for a Rajapaksha led majority which seems more than likely to happen given the bleak track records of the UNP and the Nation betraying mentality of the JVP as well as the rest of the minnows who support Ranil Wickremasinghe's false hope of regaining power.

The virtual trade unionist coup d'etat against the Government led by Lal Kantha, Thondaman and Rauf Hakeem the last two mentioned whose contentious presences should never have been tolerated in any ministerial capacity ( a huge Governmental Faux Pas!) at the present time seems to be gaining pride of place over the patriotic resolve of the inner sanctum of the JVP who at one time were touted as kingmakers. The King and his knave seems to have made way for the carriage driver to take charge of JVP decisionmaking and hence the careening direction of the organisation perhaps which appears to be coming apart at the wheels!

Perhaps this time around they will be branded as Nation destroyers and political pariahs with the rest of the motley crew whose misguided political ambitions at least hypothetically could project economic disaster as well as much greater communal unrest and terrorist directed attrocities for Sri Lanka where the LTTE are given breathing space and should they the protagonists of Anti Governmental subterfuge be permitted to indulge their devious campaign to topple the Government as envisaged by them regardless of the outcome it will be the Nation of Sri Lanka that will suffer.Ironically a former terrorist organization which is purported to have come clean might be the catalyst to this.

It seems to be an envisaged reality by many patriotic Sri Lankans that a JVP faction coalescing with the Nations enemies are hell-bent on defeating the Government at the budget vote at this crucial time of the war against the LTTE terrorism and this will certainly initiate the death blow to their future political existences for a long time to come should this ever transpire as at the end of it all the truest form of national patriotism and fervour will belong to those who defended it against its enemies not those who are prepared to betray it into the hands of the enemy!

Hence the Budget vote needs to be carried towards the overall stability of the Sinhala Nation in a simplistic and rational manner sans the complications of having to regroup the Nations losses in the event of a defeated cabinet and those whose devious designs to implement it should be castigated as national traitors.

What seems the most likely outcome of all the current scenarios within Parliament however is that the Rajapaksha Administration would have carried themselves to an overwhelming victory at the next polls regardless of the outcome of the budget where the resolve of the people of Sri Lanka would prove to be directed against all the anti Government forces based on national fervour alone which does not tolerate traitors and unpatriotic scum!!
