AIRCRAFT PARTS FOUND HIDDEN
INSIDE MAHESHWARANS CARGO SHIP BOUND TO KKS HARBOR IN NORTH
By Walter Jayawardhana
Harbor Police in Colombo has discovered with the help of the Sri
Lanka Navy parts of an airplane hidden inside a cargo ship owned by
the United National Party parliamentarian T. Maheshwaran.
The UNP Tamil parliamentarian who is alleged to have clandestine relationship
with the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) for a
long time since he became the sole Tamil member of parliament in the
troubled Jaffna peninsula has reportedly bought the ship to transport
goods to Jaffna from Colombo.
The police investigations will proceed to determine whether the parts
of the aircraft are in anyway related to the air force the warring
Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam is slowly but steadily building in
the North. Air craft in the hands of the LTTE have been considered
an extremely dangerous element by the US as well as Indian intelligence
for the security of the region and for the security of the world at
large as far as terrorism is concerned since the terrorist group owns
the worlds most advanced technology regarding suicide bombers.
Maheshwaran has told that he purchased the mercantile vessel from
Danish owners. He told Criminal investigation Department (CID) detectives
of the police to whose hands the case has been transferred now from
the harbor police that he paid US Dollars 36 million dollars for the
ship which was originally named Briton
A group of workers have noticed the parts of the airplane hidden inside
the cargo bay and noticed the police about it. Later the Sri Lanka
navy soldiers inspected the hidden goods and recognized them as parts
of an airplane.
Maheshwarans explanation for the hidden aircraft parts is that
the former Dansih captain was a collector of aircrafts and he would
have left the aircraft parts in the ship.
The ship that could hold cargo of 2000 tonnes was brought to the Colombo
harbor , January 7 purportedly to transport food to Jaffna at a time
the proxy party of the LTTE was clamoring against the food shortage
in Jaffna. Maheshwaran said he had boarded the ship to have a look
at the aircraft parts with the police.
The ship which was berthed at the Bandaranaike quay was to leave for
KKS harbor via Trincomalee, January 13 before the discovery was made.
Now the ship has been taken into custody by the Sri lanka Navy until
the investigations are over.
Maheshwaran on several occasions has voted with the Tamil National
Alliance, the proxy party of the LTTE. He hates the Sri lanka Army
and once said in the year 2003 the same fate of General Denzil Kobbekaduwa
would come to the Army Commander Lt. General Sarath Fonseka. He was
referring to the assassination of Kobbekaduwa by the Tamil Tigers.
Later Tamil Tigers attempted to kill Fonseka by a suicide bomber unsuccessfully.
Governments Tamil coalition partner the EPDP said at that time
that he was speaking at the behest of the LTTE. (
