CSLAT urges AI to "Play by the Rules"- Canada

Jaliya Wickremarachchi CSLAT (Canadian Sri Lankans Against Terrorism)

The protest was held against the AI's bogus campaign alleging GoSL for HR violations, launched to coincide with the Cricket World Cup tournament.

Over 200 Sri Lankans of all political parties and ethnic groups demonstrated slogans outside the AI, HQ on Friday (13) afternoon

The 'Canadian Sri Lankans Against Terrorism' (CSLAT) an organisation dedicated in advancement and protection of Human Rights and Peace, held strong ground over the lament excuses and the double standards of the AI, promoting a mono-ethnic terrorist cause who were responsible for thousand of treacherous activities against humanity for two decades.

The CSLAT in its view states, that the Amnesty International is no longer a credible organization, as they continue to ignore the human rights violations by the Tamil Tiger terrorists, while unfairly targeting a democratically elected government of Sri Lanka, and its multi-ethnic, world class cricket team, which is admired and loved by all the ethnic groups in Sri Lanka, and cricket fans all over the globe.

The full text of the communiqué‚ addressing the AI officials is as follows.

Ms. Betsy Ross
Amnesty International-USA
Ms. Ross:

Like Mr. Asoka Weerasinghe in his following letter, I happened to read your response to Mr. Kamal Rajapakse's letter on " AI completely bowled". Like others, I was amazed at your lame excuses, and tap dancing to justify the tactics of a sleazy campaign against the Government of Sri Lanka, by unfairly targeting and trying to humiliate Sri Lankan Cricket Team at the World Cup event.

In my view, (and others too..) Amnesty International is no longer a credible organization, as they continue to ignore the human rights violations by the Tamil Tiger terrorists, while unfairly targeting a democratically elected government of Sri Lanka, and its multi-ethnic, world class cricket team, which is admired and loved by all the ethnic groups in Sri Lanka, and cricket fans all over the globe. Not only Amnesty International has lost its credibility, but the respect of millions by engaging in an under-handed campaign to discredit a tiny democratic country, and her proud sons of the cricket team. This insensitive act by the Amnesty International shows that it is only concerned about the human rights of the Tamil Terrorists, but not the rights of the innocents who have been victimized by the Tamil Tiger terrorism.

Will Amnesty International launch a similar campaign at the next Olympic games, Super Bowl or Euro Cup, and ask United States, UK, etc, to play by the rules, as their "War Against Terror" in Iraq, and Afghanistan are killing hundreds of innocent children, women and men almost every day..?

When Western nations (US, UK, etc,) are engaged in a relentless war called, "War on Terror" by invading sovereign nations like Iraq, Afghanistan, etc, do they play by the rules...? Are not these so-called champions of the human rights and freedom loving nations, like US and UK, have violated human rights of the innocent civilians of Iraq and Afghanistan, by braking every rule of the book....??

Why is it that when Western nations violate human rights of the innocent people in other countries, and in their own, in the name of fighting terrorism, it is quite acceptable and justified by international organizations like Amnesty International, while tiny countries like Sri Lanka is fighting to save the country and its citizens from vicious terrorism, it is a major violation of human rights - according to your organization..???

Why is this hypocrisy and double standard towards countries like Sri Lanka, which has been devastated by terrorism and trying hard to eliminate terrorism so that all its people, regardless of their ethnicity, can live in peace and harmony...?

Why not launch a campaign to show the world what the Tamil Tiger terrorists have done to their own Tamil people by killing them, stealing their sons and daughters for child soldiers, using them as a human shield, and not letting them go to the government controlled areas where they can be free, and live a productive life..? Why is it that NGOs' like Amnesty International are quick to defend, or ignore the vicious human rights violations by the terrorists like Tigers, and yet quick to blame on a democratic government, which trying to protect its people and their sovereignty...?

The very fact that the Tamil Tigers have fully supported your campaign against the Sri Lankan Cricket Team, clearly shows that your organization is supporting their agenda of creating a Racist, Fascist, separate state called Eelam, without showing an ounce of concern for the human rights - which by the way your organization suppose to be based on..?
