G.L. PEIRIS AND A.H.M. FOWZIE TO GO IN SEARCH OF OIL TO AZERBAIJAN THIS MONTH

The Azerbaijani ambassador for Sri Lanka resident in New Delhi Tamerlan Garayev said that a Sri Lankan ministerial delegation interested in oil will visit the oil rich former Soviet republic by the Caspian Sea from August 16 to 18.
The delegation comprising of Minister of Development of Export and International Trade Dr. G.L. Peiris and Oil and Oil Resources Minister A.H.M. Fowzie with others are expected to negotiate oil purchases at reasonable prices since the Indian Ocean island republic is currently hit by rapidly rising oil prices.
An Azerbaijan news website said, “Sri Lanka is interested in Azerbaijan’s oil. The issue of future co-operation will be the main topic of discussion during negotiation by the Sri Lanka delegation.”
The ambassador further added, “The relationship between Azerbaijan and Sri-Lanka has been established recently and now we should try to establish such cooperation in that area where we can work together.
“ Azerbaijan can provide assistance to Sri Lanka to improve its oil-producing industry and I believe that the Sri Lanka delegation will demonstrate such an interest during their visit to Baku.”
The news website further said , the delegation will comprise of three ministers, G.L.Peiris, the minister for Development of Export and International Trade, A.H.M. Fowzie, the Oil and Oil Resources minister, and Mano Wijeratne, the Minister for Development of Enterprises and Investments. They will be holding various important meetings including the president of the Setae Oil Company of Azerbaijan, Rovnag Abdullayev, the Energy and Industry Minister, Natik Aliyev, the Foreign Minister, Elmar Mammadyarov, the Minister for Economic Development, Heydar Babayev and Emil Majidov, Head of AZPROMO. The Azerbaijani President will also meet with the delegation.
