The Government is better off without JVP.

By Charles Perera

JVP has lost its great potential as a Social Party to have paved the way, along with Mahinda Rajapakse, to first fight the war against terrorism, and then for the development of Sri Lanka , socially and economically. But JVP is already becoming a cry in the wilderness. Now that they have definitely withdrawn itself from helping the present government, its alternative is to join forces with UNP and the pro-LTTE TNA to forge ahead a different sort of development. Because, alone they will never form a government of their own, and the broad front they had been talking of, for so long will never materialise.

The people begin to see that there is no difference between the UNP and the JVP. Both are very critical of Mahinda Rajapaksa and are more concerned about the governmental corruption, and its large cabinet, rather than the necessity to end terrorism at all cost . Many young Soldiers have died to free the country from the scourge of terrorism, and for both UNP and JVP it is of little importance. Anura Dissanayake says he could topple this government even to morrow, pro Ranil, Lal Kantha is prepared to organise the workers for a general strike to see the end of the government. Wimal Weerawansa says the government has the largest cabinet in the world, therefore the government should cut down on the cabinet, but he does not seem realise that they were the cause that led the President to enlarge the cabinet so that the government would go on with its day to day work, while fighting the LTTE to put an end to terrorism.

The JVP politicians behave like spoilt children. The more the President invites them to join him, more they think that they are indispensable to the President, and attack the President and the Government the more. They pretend to know every thing, the present government for them is the more unsuccessful government there ever was. The people know better, because people have no political ambitions, therefore they understand that the path taken by the President Mahinda Rajapakse is the correct path. We already see the light at the end of the tunnel where terrorism is concerned.

The day that the USA, India, and the EU demand an end to the war against terrorism in a politically divided Sri Lanka, and Sri Lanka would be faced with the worst political situation in its history, it will certainly be too late for JVP to rise and join forces with the government against the International Community. What use is a sword that wasn't there to fend away the enemy ?

The JVP members should force its leadership to change their attitudes and help the government in its battle against the local and international enemies that bar the progress of the nation. Unless and until the terrorism is completely eliminated, there could never be peace, or development. If the JVP cannot join the government, it is far better that the big mouths of JVP join hands with those of the UNP – Ranil, Kiriella, Michael Perera, Attanayake , and the rest. JVP was a party that inspired and gave hope to many people. But to-day, JVP has turned out to be the most wavering, unsteady , unreliable political party, the country had ever seen. .

It is far better, the people and the Government treat the JVP as a disappearing species and leave them with their dreams. They are indirectly helping the International Community to force the government to end the war against terrorism.
