A Socialist would never vote against a Socialist Government, along with capitalists and reactionaries.

By Charles. S Perera

The people of Sri Lanka will be grateful to those parliamentarians who voted in favour of the 2008 Budget of the Government, which is a budget to fight against terrorism, for the progress of the country and its development.

The voting for the budget was a clear indication to which side the political parties represented in the Parliament fall. It is those parliamentarians who were keen to see an end to terrorism and get the country out of the precipice it is falling into, that voted in favour of the Budget. A real Marxist would always be with a party which is following a socialist path, even if it's policies are not strictly in keeping with the Marxist theories. Never would a Marxist worthy of his name vote along with a Capitalist Party against a Socialist Government.

JVP pays lip service to socialism. Wimal Weerawansa, Dissanayaka and the rest of them only pretend that the JVP is people friendly. But the members of the JVP in reality are interested in their own personal ambition to grab political power, and for that they will willingly join hands even with the devil himself. JVP cannot fool the people all the time. Its only importance lies in the fact they have 37 votes in the Parliament. Otherwise there is not much difference between the JVP and the UNP or the TNA.

We congratulate the Government and extend our gratitude to SLMC, CWC, for having had shown their unity with the people voting along with SLFP, MEP, UNP Democrats, and JHU.
