"Violation of Human Rights" concocted by the Racist Tamils, in their racial hatred towards the Sinhala, is used by the International Community to suit their Agenda.

By Charles Perera

In Sri Lanka there are five Communities- the Sinhala, the Tamil, the Muslim, the Burghers, and the Malays. The Sinhala is the Majority Community. The conflict is between the Sinhala and the Tamil Communities, as the Muslims, Burghers and the Malays do not have a conflict with the Sinhalese and accept the Sinhala Community as the Majority Community. The Problem with the Tamil Community is that they do not accept the Sinhala Community of nearly 74% of the population (on the 1981 census given below), as the majority community.

Principal Ethnic Groups by Province (Census 1981)

The Tamil Community, which constitutes of about 18% of the total population demands that they should have the same privileges enjoyed by the Sinhala Community. The Sinhala Community does not enjoy any special privileges that are denied to the Tamil except the formation of a Government in a democratic electoral system, and having accepted Sinhala as the official language.

The Tamils think that the democratic right of formation of the Government by the Sinhala majority, and their having accepted Sinhala as the Official language are a denial of the ethnic right of the Tamil people. The Sinhala government while declaring Sinhala the official language has given parity of status to Tamil, allowing the Tamil people the right to communicate with the Government, and the right to receive communication from the government in Tamil.

This is the seed of the so called ethnic problem in Sri Lanka. This which the Tamil Community calls the ethnic problem, is translated by the International Community as the problem between the Sinhala majority community, and the Tamil minority community, or violation of the rights of the minority Hindu Tamils, by the majority Sinhala Buddhists. This, for some Sinhalese media people like Thisaranee Gunasekara , has been caused by a supremacist state subscribing to an ideology of Sinhala patriotism.

In translating the fact that the community of the majority of the people, (in a multi racial country), forming a government of the majority of the elected persons in the exercise of the democratic principle, and that government democratically adopting the language of the majority community as the official language of the country, cannot by any means be called a violation of the human rights of the minority community. It is fundamental to the democratic system, and followed by all countries in the world. It is so in France, and it is so in India. The Sinhala Community has not sought to deny the Tamil people their democratic rights, and while making Sinhala the National Language, the government of Sri Lanka did not fail to give status of parity to the Tamil language.

The so called ethnic problem is therefore nothing but Tamil racism against the Sinhala majority. The Tamil Community unable to form a majority government of the Tamil people as long as they remain with the Sinhala Community in the same sovereign state, wants to break away and have separate "home land" to have their own Tamil Government with themselves as its majority community, with all the privileges of a majority community, as against the Sinhala in a Unitary State.

This is the same reason that has made other Tamil politicians- like Anandasangaree, speak of a Federal System in a merged North East, so that the Tamil Community may have a government of the Tamils with all the privileges that go along with it. Anandasagaree also shows his racialist "underside" in saying, "the Tamil people will never accept any thing other than a Federal constitution". He being a UNESCO laureate, should speak for the unity of all communities, bringing the Tamil community to accept a unitary constitution, and not a separatist Federal constitution.

The International Community not understanding this racial inclination of the minority Tamils, thinks that the minority Tamils, are being denied their human rights and aspirations, by the government of Sri Lanka formed by the majority Sinhala Community.

That suits the International Community as they too have an agenda of their own where a divided Sri Lanka is a better proposition to achieve their rights over the strategic situation of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean- an area where they would like to continue to wheel power. They are therefore hell bent in stopping the military onslaught on the terrorists cooped in Wanni, and that the government come to a political settlement with the terrorists.

The International Community thinks that the Government of Sri Lanka is made up of a lot of nincompoops, that could be made to dance like puppets on a string to the tunes played by USA,EU, UN, and their trumpet blowers Blake, Holmes, Abour and the rest.

If one would just go to the web sites such as the Tamil Week, Tamil Sangam and others of the Tamils, and read the article written by D.B.S.Jeyaraj, Rajasingham Narendran, Narapalasingham, and Sivakumaran.one would see the vicious racial propaganda against the Sinhala Community, and the diatribe not only against the Sinhala Community, but also to every thing that goes with the Sinhala Community, such as the Buddha and Buddhism, Mahavansa, Sinhala legends, and Sinhala literature.

On the other hand the Sinhala writers who write articles against Federalism, or in favor of the government, do not write against the Tamil Community. They always write about the Unity of the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities. They do not attack the religion of the Tamil people , their history or the language. They write against terrorism, and the terrorist, which are quite apart from the Tamil Community. There are Muslims like Nissam of Matara who write against terrorism in favor of the government and never against the Tamil people or their religion.

Therefore, there is no ethnic problem in Sri Lanka, or violation of human rights and the aspirations of the Tamil people in Sri Lanka. It is a dirty racial issue raised by the terrorists and supported by the Tamils who want to profit from it to insult the Sinhalese and determined to whip up the sentiments of the Tamil people, to harness their support against the Sinhala Community, and to break up the Unitary Status of Sri Lanka.

The terrorists are short of arms and weaponry, but they are not short of money. They can get to any where, and to any one with their " blood money". They have probably snared into their propaganda machine the Sinhala Media- like the Daily Mirror, Sunday Leader, Sinhala Media persons, like Thisaranee Gunasekara, intellectuals, and known Sinhala people apart from politicians, like Kumar Rupasinghe, Jehan Perera, Viyangoda to do propaganda on violation of human rights of the Tamil people, to give credence to the fact that the problem in Sri Lanka is political and not racial.
