Planes

Ben

Dear Editor,

We hear more and more of foreign interference in Sri Lanaka . Why can't we stand on our own two feet on defence. It is not prudent to depend on foreigners to defend Sri Lanka. Of course we wish to thank our friends for providing us with the weapons to defend Sri Lanka.

The Katunayake incident made me wonder why Sri Lankans cannot develop affordable systems with the native talent. Sri Lanka has world class Engineers, and surely they could design some affordable systems to deliver payloads.

I believe we should have an aircraft academy to give our youth opportunity to achieve their dreams of developing planes and perhaps save the country a fortune.

We should not depend on foreigners for our defence. Even joint venture with foreign friends would be a start and may be the way forward.

Even Malaysia has private academies related to the aircraft industry. Sri Lanak needs technicians to maintain aircraft. If there is an aircraft academy, Sri Lanka may be able to train their own staff and develop own defence systems.

Sri Lankans need to have self belief and the correct attitude and less baggage I believe Sri Lanka should have an aircraft academy to give their youth achieve their potential.

Yours sencerely,
Ben
