Banning of TRO- ‘another nail in the coffin of the Piece Process’?! Let’s now bury the decomposing carcass by banning LTTE!

Ramanie de Zoysa

At first it was the killing of the ‘Piece Dove’ S. P. Thamilselvan that was lamented as being ‘a major blow to the PIECE process’; now it is the banning of the main funding artery and the great Trojan Horse of the LTTE- TRO- that is being lamented as being ‘another nail in the coffin of the PIECE process’- by none other than widow number one Mr. V.Sivanadiyar, President of TRO!

For a terrorist outfit that has carried out over 300 suicide attacks on non-combatant innocents killing up to 70,000 people over the last 24 years, the LTTE talks a lot about ‘peace’ to mesmerize the semi-ignorant international media and the local NGOs! And mesmerized they become indeed!

Both TRO and Suppiah Thamilselvan, the barber turned killer turned political commissar of the LTTE had one commonality- both are/were owned one hundred percent by Velupillai Prabhakaran, the Velvettithurai smuggler turned psychopathic killer and megalomaniac.

Of the two, the ‘peace dove’ Thamilselvan walked with the aid of a walking stick due to an injury sustained- wait a minute!- in what?- in battle!!! Yes, in battle- not while making peace or making chamomile tea! He sat in the comfort of his bungalow in the Wanni, guarded by cadres, women, children and old people armed to the teeth (no pun intended), flashed a cheesy smile to the media cameras and issued death threats and warned of major offensives against the Government and the ordinary citizens of Sri Lanka on a daily basis. He met his death huddled in a bunker with five other terrorist leaders at 6am in the morning of his last day on earth- not meditating- but planning a follow up attack to top the gruesome 21 man suicide attack on the Anuradhapura SLAF camp a couple of days earlier. International media infiltrated by Tamil terrorist propaganda teams and the NGO peaceniks in Sri Lanka could not or did not add two and two together to report that a terrorist was killed- they copied straight from the Tamilnet and lamented the death of a peace dove!

TRO (Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation) was supposedly formed in 1985- according to its own president’s claim- just two years after the Tamil terrorists declared war on the people and the Government of Sri Lanka by murdering 13 army personnel in Thinnaveli. According to TRO the outfit only existed in the Wanni prior to the 2002 ceasefire agreement (‘CFA’) signed between Ranil Wickremesinghe representing himself (since he never had a mandate from the Sri Lanka Parliament or from the President as a proxy of the people of Sri Lanka) and Balasingham representing the LTTE- whether TRO really existed between 1985-2002 or what rehabilitation work the outfit undertook during this period is anyone’s’ guess. Once the 2002 CFA was signed the LTTE had its goose cooked! TRO was registered as a “Charity” in Sri Lanka and was ready to do business dealing in millions of hard currency donated or channeled by dodgy international outfits, dodgy countries like Norway and equally dodgy Sri Lankan Tamil diasporas all over the world.

The communiqué issued by TRO President condemning GOSL for the ban quite predictably uses the same ruse by referring to ‘a nail in the coffin of a peace process’. TRO got banned by the US a week and half before this and now, like a pack of cards the LTTE’s Trojan horse is collapsing.

From its claimed inception in 1985 to 2007- for 22 years- this Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation has had an income of billions of dollars; but, there is not a single rehabilitated man, woman, dog, livelihood, water pump or a house that it can lay claim to. It would indeed make interesting reading if the outfit wants to list its successful rehabilitation work for the public consumption. Instead, Mr Sivanadiyar comes up with a sad tale of how GOSL stopped it from carrying out any “humanitarian, reconstruction, and development programs”. Apart from the stale, vague, unproven allegations against GOSL of connivance with unnamed ‘paramilitaries’, threatening or killing TRO staff and continuing with the oppression of ‘Tamil people’ and even ‘genocide’ (a term used generously by the Tamil terror groups in the eighties against the Sri Lanka Government until the world at large realized that it was the LTTE that is guilty of it) this man has nothing at all to show for all the hard currency it received and spent over 22 years! While at it he has a good old swipe at the Sri Lankan judiciary as well for supposedly being corrupt.

Mr Sivanadiyar’s assurance to ‘whom it may concern’ is that its ‘mission will continue in our homeland areas without interruption and we call on the international community and the Tamil Diaspora to continue to support TRO's work with war and tsunami affected persons’. Tsunami has come and gone for several years and those who actually did any rehabilitation work such as GOSL has already resettled, re-housed and rehabilitated most of the affected people while TRO is still pleading for funds from its catchments of donors. Anyone with an ounce of grey matter should be able to separate truth from the lies in tsunami rehabilitation in Sri Lanka. It is also a concern that Mr. Sivanadiyar’s ‘homeland area’ where he is promising to continue with his ‘mission’ is reducing to the size of a postage stamp with the continuous advancement of the Sri Lanka Troops!

Now is the time to seal the coffin of the LTTE and proscribe the outfit in Sri Lanka. Mr Wickremesinghe’s peace charade is well and truly over and there is no more need for ‘confidence building measures’ with a terrorist group that does not understand the meaning of ‘peace’ but want to rob a substantial piece of real estate at the point of a gun!
