Then they came with Missionaries, to steal our wealth and mutilate our culture, and now come NGOs and UN Officials to Divide our country, and help our enemies.

By Charles S.Perera

The Dutch, the Portuguese and the British, the conquering nations on their war path brought along with them to Sri Lanka, the missionaries. While the soldiers brutalised the people and ravaged the country, the Missionaries mutilated, our cherished culture stealing from us a part of our people infusing into them the poison of a culture strange to them, dividing the nation and planting the seeds of dissention and enmity towards one another.

Centuries later, when we are still reeling from the effect of the old poisonous drugs of separateness infused into us, came the deadly tsunami that brought untold misery to a part of our nation who had not still recovered from the heinous crimes committed by our own youth who have turned into ruthless terrorists.

With the tsunami came a whole host of foreigners-the NGOs with pockets loaded with money collected from the sympathetic citizens of their various countries. They had too much of money which they did not want to share with the government to help the victims of the tsunami, but set up their own projects, and living in clover themselves, continued the age old game of dissention and separation of the natives according to communities and classes, extending the unfinished molestation of a people and their cultural values.

Now lead by the International Community, the NGOs are taking up the same role of the former Missionaries who came with the conquerors, with a difference. The modern missionaries-the NGOs are to globalise the planet, infusing in to the people other values more disastrous to the already hybrid national cultures. The former, were to civilise the uncivilised savages, while the latter to find holiday resorts, and settlements, to a varied collection of pedophiles, sex merchants, racketeers, and leisure lovers.

In former times, Sri Lanka was visited by more cultured and educated Western elite, but the modern day visitors from the West either for tourism, or for official occupations for the most part are of doubtful origin. Even high level officials are sometime of low caliber. Therefore, the government of Sri Lanka must keep their eyes open and call for clearance of all foreign appointees by appropriate responsible authorities, before they are allowed to enter Sri Lanka, to take up any appointment with any foreign Organisations, in Sri Lanka be they that of the UNO or not.

It was recently a respected American was recommended by the USA Educational Authorities, for a very Senior Executive Post in the Paris Head Quarters of the UNESCO. He was very high handed and took over the financial management of the department into his own hand . He overlooked all regulations, tender procedures, and standing orders and gave several contracts of work at exorbitant rates for a Construction Firm of his choice in America, appointing his wife to be the intermediary between the Firm and the Organisation. The officers, who pointed out the irregularities , were transferred out of his Sector. Finally the External Audits intervened and his services were terminated by the UNESCO. Therefore, trust and honesty cannot be taken for granted on the face value of persons.

When, the British colonized Sri Lanka, they also sent Christian Missionaries to wean away the uncivilized natives from their false gods and beliefs and convert them to their civilised Christian belief system. However, it was a son of a Welsh Congregational Minister T.W.Rhys Davids, once a British Civil Servant, in Sri Lanka, who found in the religion of the natives a far greater civilisation. He said ""Buddhist or not Buddhist, I have examined every one of the great religious systems of the world, and in none of them have I found anything to surpass, in beauty and comprehensiveness, the Noble Eightfold Path and the Four Noble Truths of the Buddha. I am content to shape my life according to that path."

The visitors such as T.W.Rhys Davids, from the West are rare now. We have instead tricksters, criminals, thieves, and traitors. Therefore we have to be very cautious with who we have to deal with, from among those who come to Sri Lanka now.

Dr.Kingsley Heendeniya's article in the Island, copied by Lanka Web, is an eye opener. The employment of fraudulent men and women seem to be a continued old practice of UNICEF and INRC. He says, "………the UNICEF and the International Red Cross. They employed junior nurses, dental nurses, public health inspectors, ambulance drivers and even an anaesthetist from donor countries to 'instruct' and 'supervise' me, disporting a luxurious life-style they never knew in their home countries.

They used equipment, vehicles and material to serve the LTTE. I left my job at the Red Cross after I exposed a massive racket with connivance of these foreigners to transport drugs, surgical material, urea and bombs using even ambulances. The main conduit was the Killinochchi Red Cross Society."
