Who is Winning Sri Lanka's war and who is winning the Iraqi War?

Dilrook Kannangara

Bulls* broadcasting corporation has done it again; this is nothing but a valiant attempt to cover up the cowardice in Iraq where the British soldiers are retreating in ravished defeat. As a mark of sheer spinelessness the Royal Prince has been kept away from Iraq; if he cannot fight the war, then why is he in the army at British tax payers’ expense?

In the Sri Lankan context, the winner is clear. It was the winner that battered the loser out of its hiding places in the East. This is not the first time this winning strategy is followed; in fact Prince Dutugemunu followed the same ploy 2,168 years ago. Although the LTTE is capable of surprise attacks, there is no surprise that the SL military will ferociously retaliate any such move.

A point in focus is the World Cup finals day attack by the terrorists. Although sinking Ranil got maximum political mileage from it, at the end of the day the LTTE attack failed to hit any of the intended targets! In fact some LTTE sources say that Parabakaran had blasted the pilots once it was clear that they had attacked facilities belonging to Royal Dutch Shell Company and the Indian Oil Company. After two weeks later came the SLAF retaliation part 2 where a large LTTE oil storage was bombed into oblivion. Who won the air sorties?

True to Tom Cruise in Top Gun, we have a need, a need for speed. Speedy and heavier retaliation would restrict the terrorists to hell.

Also these ‘analysts’ conveniently forgot about real Tamil liberation headed by the TMVP. Although there are LTTE commanders appointed to the East, they are hiding in the Northern jungles for the fear of TMVP officers.

The recent attack on Delft was just another failed LTTE attempt. According to the LTTE’s BBC (tamilnet), terrorists have left the island after ‘defeating the navy’. Why on earth they have to leave what they won? It seems that the BBC is trying to cover up this failure as it has done so many times before.

Some of the so called independent individuals interviewed by the BBC are actually on the losing side. While one individual depends on the war for his bread and butter, the other depends on “peace”. According to folklore they should be termed “Raigamayai, Gampolayai”!
After the Riviresa operation one of these jokers came up with a ‘strategy’ to capture the A9 road and roads leading to Mannar and Mulaitivu as the way to win the war. This strategy failed not only during Premadasa-Wijetunga time, but also during CBK’s rule. The proper strategy is to kill as many terrorists as possible while securing strategic locations.

However, Parabakaran knows too well that his child brigades, virgin killers, pregnant prostitutes are losing this war. He had no such fear until 2004. This is the reason why he dispatched hurriedly his 3 (yes, three) children and wife to Ireland and England. The last time this happened was when the Indian army was here (then it was Norway). They came back in 1990 as the government surrendered to the LTTE; they stayed back through CBK’s rule as no major risks were posed to them, especially during the latter part of her rule. During this time they studied at the expense of the majority Sinhala tax payers’ money. There is a brigade (Charles Anthony Brigade) awaiting his son’s return which will never happen. This resembles with some of our politicians’ strategy.
Of course, Britain is home to many ‘terrorists’ including Anton Balasingham, Chechnyan terror leader, etc. Terror fathers have bred so many offspring there; ‘home grown terrorism’ should not surprise anyone!
