Mr.Kannangara's Very Appropriate Insert, Further Endorsed And Put Into Perspective !

Monsieur Perera ~ Journalists Sans Distinctions ~ For LankaWeb

Dec.28th 2007
Indeed anyone with an iota of cognizance towards decorum and code of conduct relative to respectability whether as a parliamentarian or an ordinary citizen observing the conduct of Minister and Parliamentarian Mervyn Silva would be inclined to fully concur with Mr. Dilrook Kannangara 's article " Its Either Mervin or the Government"

First of all it might be asked in order to appease many curiosities who is this Mervin Silva and with what authority does he conduct himself in the manner of a bull in a chinashop or worse ? ~ Perhaps a man possessed! as the cynosure of a thovil ceremony who needS to be exorcised as the man seems to be demonic at times! In a display of utter uncivilized behaviour, the Minister is reported to have recently stormed into the state-run national television Rupavahini and assaulted employees which was transformed into a major battle where he was subdued and confined until released by law enforcement intervention. He was seen in the aftermath of his foray being led away covered in blood.

This is not the first instance that the conduct of this Minister has been unruly and aggressive as there are other recorded incidents some even involving his son suggesting that anger management seems to be a felt need for a problem which seems to run in the family. A turncoat from the UNP who was also part of a previous UNP government, the minister concerned has apparently even then been at his streetfighter best taking on anyone who crossed him in debate and argument with his self styled physical response which makes him a common thug perhaps in need of rehabilitation and to reiterate, the anger management previously mentioned! He has even had the audacity to storm the Canadian Embassy in Colombo once providing the Canadian Diplomatic staff with a good laugh at the man's lack of knowledge of the term Diplomacy!

As observed by Mr Kannangara (as an infra dig at Ranil Wickremasinghe ! ) " Obviously the spineless UNP leader let it pass by and now the particular MP sits in the other camp. Had proper punishment been meted out to him many a headache would have been averted. It is time that he is expelled from the government, else the government will be 'expelled' in full pretty soon. There is no valid justification for the whole government to suffer due to the acts of a single obstinate politician " while discrediting it at a national level may it be added and perhaps fulfilling the objectives of his former allies in disrupting the smooth functioning of parliament and governance with his contentious behaviour while also somewhat ignominiously getting away with it in these times where majority votes do a lot of talking !!

Yes Indeed! Its about time the Administration took notice of this seedy character and set a code of conduct for his ilk,(S.B Dissanayake, Anuruddha Ratwatte et al! eat your hearts out! )which will incorporate the expectations from others in his capacity lest it brings disrepute to the Rajapaksha Administration and turns the legislature as well as areas of the Nation frequented by these reprobates into a circus!

Its Either Mervin or the Government
Dilrook Kannangara
Mervin Silva has done it again. In a display of utter uncivilized behaviour, the Minister had stormed into the state-run national television and assaulted employees which was transformed into a major battle.

This is akin to the conduct of the Matara district UNP Minister in 2003 where he caused similar havoc at a five star hotel in Colombo. Many then pointed out that the then UNP government should have sacked the minister concerned. Obviously the spineless UNP leader let it pass by and now the particular MP sits in the other camp.

Had proper punishment been levied many a headache would have been averted. The same can be said about Mervin. It is time that he is expelled from the government, else the government will be expelled in full pretty soon. There is no valid justification for the whole government to suffer due to the acts of a single obstinate politician.

There may have been shortcomings on the part of the employees at the SLRC, but, the conduct of the Minister was in no way commensurate with that.

There is an added problem with Mervin. He had on many occasions clashed with many people, an embassy, civil groups, etc. Additionally, his son also started following his father. According to some credible sources, Malaka Silva has bought a extremely luxury vehicle for his use when even the President’s son used a borrowed car (this made another big controversy).

There are other allegations against this former UNP minister. The 2001 general election was scheduled by Chandrika Kumaratunga based on astrological predictions of Mrs. Silva. The selection was highly criticized by renowned astrologers aligned to the SLFP government. Although astrology does little or nothing to dictate human endeavors, this shows the true allegiance of the Silvas.

Besides, Mervin failed to bring in a single vote for the SLFP as he came to parliament through the National List. It is therefore clear that he is not an asset to the party or the government. He must be expelled at least now. It is a joke that the Labour Minister assaults the employees of a government corporation. His action also has a national security concern. Contrary to the advice of surrender advocates, the government is running an aggressive military campaign. Critics try to depict Sri Lanka as a state that abuses power although the government has always stayed within the law which also includes the PTA. However, by the acts of this particular minister these critics get ammunition to further attack the government.

He also chose a fantastic time to unleash the beast in him. This comes at a time when the government is struggling to keep its majority in Parliament. He knows that his actions may have to be tolerated by the government to maintain its majority. However, although in the short run he may prove valuable, in the long run the government is going to pay a very heavy price for keeping him.

When SB Dissanayake was a marauding agent, the then government shed him. This proved immensely valuable for the SLFP to score major election victories in three consecutive elections. Therefore all patriotic Lankans must demand from the government to expel this disgrace forthwith. Failure to do it, I assure, will certainly end up with a winding up of this government pretty soon.
