SRI LANKA WINS THE SECOND GOLD AT THE ASIAN MEET

Sri Lanka’s Prasanna Amrasekera won the gold medal at the men’s final 400 meter event at the Asian Athletic Championships meet now being held at Amman, Jordan.

He clocked 46.7 seconds in winning the second gold for the country at the meet.

The leader of the Sri Lankan team Olympic medalist Susanthika Jayasinghe on the previous day won the first gold medal of the meet at the women’s 100 meter event clocking 11.9 seconds at the event.
Observers said she might win another gold for women’s 200 meter event.

This is the first time Amarasekara, who had taken part in relays before has won a gold medal in a single event at an international meet. He said it was a significant event in his sports career.
Menaka Wickramasinghe secured a bronze medal in the 400 meter women’s final in 54.1 seconds.
Over 700 athletes from 45 countries take part in the 17th Asian Athletics Championships in Amman, Jordan, from July 25 to 29, according to an Asian Athletics Association (AAA) statement
