What Ranil gave to terrorists as controlled
territory, Mahinda wrested back
- yet people with short memories rally round Ranil , to hear false
promises and bitter jokes.

We are people with short memories. JVP became a popular political party
and even won 39 parliamentary seats, because they joined with the SLFP,
and shared the popular support of the people. JVP says that Mahinda
Rajapakse was elected President because of them, forgetting that each
mutually supported the others to win political popularity. Mahinda Rajapakse
did not show himself ungrateful to JVP for their support. But JVP is
not only ungrateful to that support which brought them also into popularity,
but turned out to be a vicious opponent of the President and his government.
If Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse becomes unpopular, the JVP could be sure there
would be repercussions that will make them also as much unpopular or
even more so.
In an election, JVP contesting alone or leading a Broad Front will
find that its popularity has also eroded. But Mahinda Rajapakse- a more
matured and an astute politician may still ride the wave to be re-elected
as a popular President, with or without JVP support. The crowds at rallies
and political meetings are no indication of how the people may vote
at an election. The very people who carried banners and shouted slogans
at the UNP-SLFP(M) Janarala may vote against both Ranil Wickramasinghe
and Mangala Samaraweera.
In politics one can never say which way the wind may blow. SB went
with his family to pay respect to the President Mahinda Rajapakse, and
on the following day he was shaking hands with Samaraweera, saying that
the President is without the costume with which Samaraweera draped him,
and that the loin cloth was stripped by Sooriyaratchi , and the crowds
who laugh at any thing vulgar or stupid were apparently roaring with
laughter.
The JVP and Douglas Devanada have forgotten the contribution made by
Karuna, who broke away from LTTE terrorists, to liberate the East from
terrorist control. Their asking Karuna to disarm is like asking him
to commit suicide.
Karuna unarmed and without his parmilitary group will be a living target
for the LTTE terrorists to practice hit and run pistol shooting, and
setting up claymore bombs. Rakheems is also an ungrateful man and he
may set up the Muslims in East against Karuna, complaining of fear of
the Muslims against armed para-military groups, without any concern
for the life of Karuna.
Karuna whether one likes it or not is still an important element to
keep the East safe. It is more so with Ranil Wickramasinghe, and the
JVP revolting against the President and his government. One really does
not know for whom these politicians have made promises. There may be
forces that work behind scene to topple the Mahinda Rajapakse Government,
as it is the greatest remaining obstacle to the survival of LTTE terrorism,
and to those others to fulfil their egoist ambitions to come into political
power.
We speak of our Buddhist Cultural heritage, but we fail to give credit
where credit is due. It is Ranil Wickramasinghe who shamelessly sold
parts of our country to a blood thirsty terrorist by signing a CFA to
obtain the votes of the people living in the terrorist controlled areas
to assure his victory at the Presidential election. Ranil Wickramasinghe
with his Janarala, lies and false promises will not hesitate to sell
Sri Lanka to Prabhakaran once again if he comes to power. People owe
their gratitude to Mahinda Rajapaksa and the armed forces for having
wrested away from the terrorists what Ranil Wickramasinghe gave to them
on a platter. It is therefore a shame that we flock to meetings held
by UNP led by Ranil Wickramasinghe accompanied by the shameless fall
outs from SLFP.
Somawansa Amarasinghe, try to define patriots taking himself to be
the only one. Mahinda Rajapakse has a better right to be a patriot than
Amarasinghe who emerged into democratic politics in very recent times.
It is one thing to be a franc and a sincere politician, and another
thing to level what ever accusations against another to bring credit
to oneself. There is a saying that one can fool some of the people some
of the time, but not all of the people all of time. Somavansa Amarasinghe
and the JVP will eventually learn the rude reality of their political
worth if they continue their chosen path.
I believe that all socialist forces should work together for progressive
development of a country. In that respect I had a great respect for
JVP politicians who were young and were ready to put service before
selves.
They were enthusiastic, sincere, intelligent and hard working. People
like Anura Dissanayake and Vijitha Herath or even Lala Kantha were exceptional.
But then they veered off tracing a path of their own leaving Mahinda
Rajapakse a young and a brilliant people friendly person, who depended
on JVP and repeatedly invited them to join him. But then Somawansa Amarasinghe
became their leader and the spokes man. Thereafter JVP changed and that
is sad and deplorable. There were many who were disappointed with that
change of attitude of JVP. That change is going to cost much for both
JVP and the SLFP, the one to benefit from that change is undoubtedly
UNP.
It is unbelievable what people could say to gain political mileage.
Tissa Attanayake speaks of a Rajapakse Brother’s cruel administration,
when all that they have been doing risking their own lives is to fight
against a ruthless group of terrorist to liberate the Tamil people imprisoned
in the areas under terrorist control. The governments with family connections
started with UNP. The UNP was at one time called the Uncle Nephew Party.
D.S.Senanayake had his son, and cousins in the Cabinet. J.R.Jayawardhana
who was called the Yankee Dickie had his cousins and nephew with him
in his Government. Mrs.Bandaranayake, had her uncle , nephew and a brother
, while Chandrika Kumaratunga too had her brother and uncle in the cabinet.
So who are Ranil Wickramasinghe and Tissa Attanayake trying to fool
talking about Mahinda Rajapakse and his brothers.
The UNP speaks of a large sum of money paid to Prabhakaran by Mahinda
Rajapakse to assure his election as the President. But the greatest
betrayal was that of Ranil Wickramasinghe signing the CFA with Prabhakaran
without consulting even the elected President. Under the circumstances
what right has the UNP make any allegations against Mahinda Rajapakse.
UNP is bankrupt of even ideas to project before the people to prove
itself a worthy alternative to replace the government of Mahinda Rajapakse,
and the SLFP in power. UNP could always muster large crowds for their
party meetings, by various means and there was a time those who joined
the UNP rallies were called “bath gottas”. Therefore the large
crowds at meetings and rallies are nothing to go by as indicators of
the popularity of a political party.
