ANTI-TERRORIST ORGANIZATION IN THE NETHERLANDS DEMANDS THE PRIME MINISTER TO BAN TRO FOR COLLECTING FUNDS FOR TERRORISM

By Walter Jayawardhana

In a letter submitted to Jan Peter Balkenende , the Prime Minister of The Netherlands, an anti-terrorist organization in the Hague demanded the government should immediately ban the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO)which is raising funds for terrorism for pyrported humanitarian purposes.

Delivering the letter immediately after a protest demonstration in the capital , the Hague the protestors said, “ The LTTE is today an international criminal network involved in the global Narcotics trade, Arms Smuggling, Human trafficking, human smuggling, Money laundering, Credit Cad Frauds and a wide range of other illegal activities which collects a huge sum of Euros from The Netherlands on a monthly basis.”

The letter signed by K. Waidyasekera, Ranjith Ranasinghe and Mahanama Kumarage on behalf of the Sri lanka Against Terrorism in the Netherlands further said, the LTTE is a terrorist organization which has never been elected by the people democratically nor appointed to represent the Tamils in Sri Lanka . During the last two and a half decades, the LTTE has been engaging in brutal assassinations of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim Political leaders, academics, journalists and innocent civilians, it alleged.

“Presently, there are 31 countries including the USA (1997), India (1992), Canada (2006) United Kingdom (2000), Malaysia and the EU (2006) which have banned the LTTE as one of the most dangerous and deadly extremist outfits in the world”, the letter informed the Dutch government.

The letter further alleged that the terrorist organization has committed the following crimes :

  • Two heads of State, Former President of Sri Lanka Mr. R. Premadasa and Former Prime Minister of India Mr. Rajiv Ghandi,
  • Five Cabinet Ministers including Hon. Lakshman Kadirgamar,
  • Former Minister of Foreign Affairs,
  • Ten Tamil Members of Parliament, including TULF Leader Mr. A. Amirthalaingam,
  • Three Tamil Mayors of the North and a large number of innocent Tamils, Sinhalese and Muslims, including religious dignitaries of all faiths (Buddhists, Hindus, Christians and Islamists),
Former President Mrs. Chandrika Kumaratunga narrowly escaped from a suicide attack by the LTTE sacrificing an eye,
  • Army Commander Sarath Fonseka was targeted by a pregnant woman suicide bomber in Colombo . He was among the 22 seriously injured, 12 others died in this attack
The letter further said, “The LTTE pioneered the use of suicide bombs which are copied by many other terrorist Organizations worldwide.

"We understand that the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) is a front organization of the LTTE which is actively engaged in fund raising in The Netherlands and that they collect funds from a large majority of Tamil families in The Netherlands. These funds are directly remitted to the LTTE accounts in France , United Kingdom and Canada . The LTTE is using these funds to buy weapons and to engage in other illegal activities towards destabilizing and terrorizing a sovereign country.
“Therefore, we request The Netherlands Government to Ban the pro LTTE TRO Organizations as an illegal Organization in The Netherlands.

"The LTTE has been recruiting children as Child Soldiers violating the International norm and the United Nations Convention on Children’s Rights. According to UNICEF’s latest report, the total number of child soldiers recruited by the LTTE since 2001 stands at 5794.”
