PILLAIYAN BECOMES CHIEF MINISTER OF EASTERN PROVINCE

Leader of the TMVP, Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pilleyan was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the Eastern Provincial Council before President Mahinda Rajapaksa today (May 16) at the Presidential Secretariat

Chandrakantha obtained the highest number of preferential votes from the Batticaloa District in the recently concluded Provincial Council elections.

Pillaiyan, was the deputy chief of the renegade LTTE group led by Karuna who decided to select the democratic mainstream instead of an armed struggle. In a leadership change Pilaiyan became the leader of the breakaway group , that was named Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal. (TMVP)

The TMVP entered into a coalition with the ruling party led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and won the Eastern Provincial Council elections.
