Divided States of USA !!!!!! Divided Kingdom!!!!!!! Remember you will reap the seeds of division that you sow.

L.Peiris

Sri Lanka was right not to endorse the unilateral secession of Kosovo from the Republic of Serbia. The declaration of independence was made without the consent of the majority of the people of Serbia. As Vitaly Churkin Russian ambassador to the United Nations, has said "a blatant breach of the norms and principles of international law." In the course of time, who can guarantee that a blind eye will not be cast by the same western powers to the violation of the charter of the United Nations, which guarantees the sovereignty and integrity of Sri Lanka?

US and other Western countries that will officially recognize Kosovo’s unilateral independence declaration are nations that took part in the 1999 war by NATO forces and Kosovo has been administered by the United Nations ever since.

If you accept the unilateral secession of Kosovo, as Serbian President Boris Tadic has said "no country's sovereignty and borders are safe". Sri Lanka and other nations who face ethnic conflicts should take heed not to entertain foreign NGO’s in their soil. Their purposes and modes of operation should be thoroughly checked as they are nothing but tools used by Western powers to ignore the territorial integrity and impose their own will.

The vociferous and blatant request from UN’s Louis Arbour and other officials of the UN in deploying foreign forces for peacekeeping and monitoring roles for an internal affair in Sri Lanka, should be obvious and clear. The next step would be to deploy more foreign troops. Lines of division on area basis would then be made on the pretext of ease of administration. Then there will be attacks on the southern provinces specifically for the purpose of antagonising the majority Sinhala, and so force a backlash of violence. This would then give the opportunity for the UN forces to divide the country take over the administration in these areas. The Tamil minority will then be able to unilaterally declare independence, when after about 10 years the UN forces hand over these areas without the consent of the majority of the people of Sri Lanka.

Ms Louis Arbour, the UN, and these Western powers should understand that they can fool some people some of the time [like they did to Serbia] but you can’t fool all the people all the time. People of Sri Lanka and nations like Russia, China and nations facing minority conflicts are now aware of the hidden motives of these western nations.

US and Western countries have violated the territorial integrity of Serbia. Would the US allow the state of California, where the majority are Hispanics to unilaterally declare independence? Would the UK allow Scotland and Wales where the majority are Scottish and Welsh to unilaterally declare independence? Mr Milliband, the British foreign Secretary, a great supporter of Kosovan independence should envisage a state of Punjab in Birmingham, a state of Barbados in Peckham etc at his doorstep. Every Tom, Dick and Harry will start clamouring for their own little mini state as they are the majority in that mini area. Why do they cast a blind eye to this illegal act in Serbia, and who guarantees them that parts of their countries will not declare independence in the same illegal way"?

It is hoped that Russia and China who have veto powers as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, who were coerced into inaction when Serbia was invaded by NATO forces with false promises would uphold their legal obligations to maintain Serbia's territorial integrity. India the regional power must be aware that this endorsement will fan the flames of division and disintegration of India. All self-respecting nations should veto and oppose this secession, which violates the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Member State Serbia, and uphold UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 10th June 1999 reaffirming the commitment to uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all member states of the world.
