The LTTE terrorists intensified its attack at the Northern FDL at
Muhamalai, Kilialy and Nakarkovil since yesterday night (Tuesday the
10th of October).
The Military Spokesperson Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe says that
the LTTE terrorists in large numbers attempted to infiltrate into
the liberated areas at several locations of the FDL.
The security forces retaliated successfully and now being engaged
in neutralising the enemy gun positions located at Palai area.
The Air Force fighters pounded on the enemy gun positions in Palai
this morning between 11.a.m to 11.15a.m . The damages caused to the
enemy is yet to be known
Brigadier Samarasinghe also pointed out that no major military offensive
has been undertaken by the Military. "The security Forces are
merely defending themselves in the face of the LTTE attack "
he said.
Following its "Final War" campaign, which turns into a
fiasco in the face of security forces retaliation in mid August this
year, the LTTE is continuing to attack at the Northern FDL using Mortars
and heavy Artillery.
In order to avoid these harassments, the security forces were compelled
to advance in to the LTTE dominated area and captured LTTE's second
line of defense in September.
Although the operations could successfully reduce the Artillery threat
to the Jaffna peninsula the Mortar attacks at the FDL have been continued
to the date form the LTTE gun positions in Palai and Elephant Pass
areas.
The LTTE terrorists repeated attempts to disrupt the FDLs with heavy
shelling and the intensification of such attacks during early hours
today was informed to the SLMM timely.
The Air force and Navy assistance was sought to neutralize and destroy
identified terrorists concentrations and reinforcements using sea
routes.
Military sources said that 22 soldiers sacrificed their lives whilst
113 being were wounded during the retaliation.
Ground troops state that, there are a large number of LTTE terrorists
lying dead ahead of the present Defence Lines.
The retaliatory actions by the troops are still continuing.
The government has already made its position clear to the LTTE that
the government will not be remained trapped to the ceasefire allowing
the LTTE to carryout attacks at the security forces at freehand.
