The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam gunmen killed a little baby of 18 months old and seriously injured the baby boy’s recently married young parents in the Eastern Province recently.

Police who are investigating into the incident said the gunmen entered a house at Mavadiwembu in Sittandi in the Eravur area of the Batticaloa District and opened fire on the young couple and their baby son indiscriminately, killing the infant instantly and seriously injuring the newly married young couple.

The terrorist group was desperately asking the ex-cadre Nimalan (20) to re-join the terrorist group. Since he was newly married and was the father of a baby boy and wanted to help his wife to attend to the needs of the baby staying at home he refused. They were also staying in the houses of his relatives to avoid the terrorists. The terrorists were desperate as they were even turning to schoolchildren to receive military training and go to war as there was a terrible manpower crisis of their army. They also wanted , the police believe , to send a warning to the others, that to disobey and escape was not a way of saving their skins.

So, August 16 at 9.30 at night they entered the house in which the young couple was staying with their baby son and showered a rain of T-56 rounds towards everything that moved. The 18 months old Nilushan dropped dead instantly and was laying in a pool of blood. Their young parents Nimalan (20) and Gajanmilar (18) received serious injuries and were rushed to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital for treatment.

The police said the neighbors are stunned with horror by the murder of the baby.
