SHAME COLOMBO SHAME

The Indian Temple Authorities Are Embarrassed Over the Petty Mindedness of some Buddhist Sinhalese In Sri Lanka

By Christine Welangoda.

The favourite punching bag of the week for the Sri Lankan media seems to be the wife of Sri Lankan President Shriyanthi Rajapaksa. Congratulations ma'am, welcome to the ring. The article on the controversy of Sri Lankan president's wife entering the Guruvayur Temple in India has been reported as something like a leper entering a highly sterilized operating theatre in a hospital. Sri Lankan media were trying to portray that Guruvayur Temple has lost its virginity with Shriyanthi Rajapaksa's visit to the ever merciful Lord Krishna's shrine. Well if there is any fear of loss of sanctity taken place after her visit, I would say that as a Roman Catholic, Shiranthi Rajapaksa would have under gone purification through 'Sacrament of Holy Baptism', a purification Ceremony with holy water, holy oil, and holy incense. No worries to the ever lamenting Sri Lankan media as nothing will happen to contaminate Lord Krishna's holy sanctum. The Catholic Church has purified Mrs Rajapaka through most holy baptism. Perhaps that purity was felt by Lord Krishna who permitted her entry to the holy shrine along with her presidential husband with no fuss at the time. May Almighty God bless Lord Krishna for his wisdom and kindness to Shriyanthi Rajapaksa the first lady of Sri Lanka.

Reading this report from Colombo, one would stop to ask 'Isn't everyone equal before the eyes of GOD?' why then this exception to Mrs Rajapaksa? Before the world she is certainly not inferior to any Buddhist Sinhalese in faith or in her thinking as a Roman Catholic nor is she unclean if Buddhists are clean enough.

It is time that the Media shows respect to the families of the leaders. Please do not let them be exposed to the fate that Princess Diana faced. These wives and young children of the leaders are sacrificing a lot sharing their lives with public political figures, especially in a war torn country. My humble request to the Island and other Media is to spare the lives of these young families. In Australia the media respects the privacy of the family members of the leaders in politics. Sri Lanka should follow that example, only providing constructive and decent criticism. The badly reported articles will certainly damage relationships between the parents and their children. This was forgotten on many occasions by the SriLankan media during President Kumaratunge's period. She was the subject of many indecent media reports. Excuse me when I say these reports were putrid and unfit for public reading.

May Lord Krishna pardon these sins and give wisdom to the Sri Lankan media to choose between right and wrong. We are a nation with more than 2500 years of civilisation. Let us be ruled with those values in our forward journey as a Great Nation

SRILANKAN MEDIA IS SIMPLY CAUSING AN EMBARRASSMENT TO TEMPLE AUTHORITIES IN INDIA AND SRILANKAN COMMUNITY LIVING EVERY WHERE IN THE WORLD.
