Open letter to Mr. Gareth Evans, President of International Crisis Group (ICG)

Dear Sir,

I am referring to comments made by Mr Gareth Evans, President of International Crisis Group about Sri Lanka. The specific comment I refer to is "Potential case for global intervention in Sri Lanka: ICG chief " Hindu. Ref. Hindu - http://www.hindu.com/2007/07/31/stories/2007073155201400.htm It appears that Mr Evans fail to understand the root cause of the problem. In Sri Lanka, LTTE is trying to create a racist Tamil empire and Sri Lanka is trying to survive. Very few civilian casualties occurred during the liberation of the east of Sri Lanka . In contrast, action by Western Countries in Iraq has resulted in civilian casualties in excess of 100000 (Lancet). Some say the casualties are much higher. Also many casualties have occurred in Afganistan as well.

When Comments such as the ones quoted above are made by an official of IGC, one wonders if they are in the pay or influence of LTTE or if they are completely naive. With LTTE's massive profit in excess of 200 million dollars (Janes defence review), any thing is possible. Further the comments show the bias of ICG, in favour of LTTE. Defending the territorial integrity of Western countries during the second world war resulted in the death of millions. Fire bombing of German cities killed many.

When the territorial Integrity of USA was at risk, they used nuclear bombs in Japan, killing over 200,000 in just two bombs. Sri Lanka should liberate the North, to prevent killings by LTTE. LTTE have killed many, including over 22 MPs and leaders of India and Sri Lanka. LTTE was trained and armed by India. Sri Lanka’s territorial integrity is at serious risk now, by a very racist terror group that has done ethnic cleansing and fund raising in the West.

Mr Evans has to be given credit for recognising that it is foreign states that allowed LTTE to build up power. In fact, it is bogus refugees and bogus charities that fund LTTE.

Please Mr Evans be realistic. When irresponsible remarks are made then robust defence may follow.
