War Winnable and Peace Achievable Militariliy Alone

Dilrook Kannangara

Sri Lanka’s war is very much winnable and its security forces are winning it. Today warfare is not about capturing bunkers; it is an attrition warfare aimed at killing the maximum number of terrorists. Only naturally falling LTTE bunkers and bunkers of strategic importance are captured by the security forces. Security forces have shown that they are better than the LTTE in guerrilla warfare recently. They are amply supported by paramilitary groups.

When the East was liberated, many idiotic theories were brought that it cannot be retained, etc. etc. But defying all these nonsense theories security forces and local militant groups together maintain to this date complete control over it. Of course a few skirmishes take place as it happens in New York every day! Same with Jaffna which is the Tamil heartland. Therefore if anyone argues that the security forces cannot control Vanni when liberated, they are living in a fools’ paradise where the Sun Dog is the king. Vanni will also be run by EPDP and TMVP armed divisions alongside the security forces.

I propose caution before quoting from the Holy Bible; although Jesus praised ‘peace-makers’, as a Catholic I know that he never brought peace to anywhere!! Of course this is in addition to what happens in Bethlehem and Jerusalem almost everyday!!

Jesus said, "I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed! Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law." (Luke 12:49-52).

Indeed the Church is divided even on such trivial matters as “whether to allow sex for priests or not”, and they try to make peace in the world without patching up their own internal divisions! Please Rev. Malcolm Ranjith, if you have an iota of intelligence first unify the Catholic, Protestant, Anglican, Presbyterian, Church of England and dozens of other Churches in Sri Lanka before attempting to bring peace to divided Sri Lanka! Leave it to the military.

Jesus also said “How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.”
"Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs (and tigers - inclusion is mine). If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.” (Matthew 7:4-6)

Sri Lanka is sacred to all patriotic Sri Lankans and no part of it shall be given to dogs, pigs or tigers in the name of “peace”!

On the other hand the Biblical King David practically proved how to bring peace by annihilating all the enemies of his nation. Sri Lanka is indeed at war with a Goliath. The Tamil problem is not confined to Sri Lanka; it is a global problem affecting 80 million Tamils (four times the Sri Lankan population) the world over as correctly observed by their leader recently. There is nothing little Lanka can do to solve this global menace, only India can do so by allowing Tamil Nadu more autonomy. Just because India is a military superpower, it doesn’t mean that Sri Lanka must entertain global Tamil aspirations. Many Tamils live peacefully in Sri Lanka and some cannot; those who cannot live peacefully in Sri Lanka (let them be Tamils, Sinhalese, Muslims or Veddhas) must be guided using military and other means to hell.

I earnestly ask Sri Lankans to support the military campaign to bring peace as it has brought peace to many parts previously under terror including Mavil Aru. A political solution is fine provided it has the majority support and includes some good points in the Malaysian solution which is the only successful remedy to Tamil seperatism. Rest assured Tamil seperatism will not raise its ugly head in Malaysia thanks to its military crackdown; it will certainly crop up in federal India!
