AN OPEN LETTER TO HON. CHAMPIKA RANAWAKA - MINISTER OF ENVIORNMENT.

Noor Nizam Sri Lanka Peace Activist. Canada .

Hon.Environment Minister Champika Ranawaka.

You have not only "polluted the "political environment" of the social-democratic vision and passion of the SLFP, but you are in fact now attempting to pollute the peace and harmony of the Nation of Sri Lankan with your loud mouth talks that you are making to the Media. How can HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa, Nation Building Minister, Hon. Basil Rajapaksa and their team bring PEACE and HARMONY between the three main communities when selfish political opportunist like you make such irresponsible and rash political statements.

Because for some reason you are tolerated in the HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa government you are indeed making a mess out of the real political scenario that can be favourable to the MR. Government in the future. I am a strong supporter of the INTENTIONS of HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa's PEACE initiatives. I have been long before you with the SLFP and I do not believe in VIOLENCE. I ONLY believe in PEACE and HARMONY of the NATION of Sri Lanka. Yet I have to go by the concept that the security forces have to face the challenges of the LTTE as and when it arises.

It is in this context that I have to tell you Hon. Minister - How dare you say that The presence of SLMC Leader, Chairman and Secretary and their presence is sure to intimidate Sinhala and Tamil voters from voting for the UNP led alliance in the Eastern Provincial Council elections on May the 10th.

I am a born Sri Lankan first, I hail from the Eastern Province second and I am a Muslim after all. I am NOT a RACIST like how you have shown yourself Mr. Minister. Your statement infers total RACISM and RACIAL DIVIDE where without saying, you are inferring to the Muslims of the Eastern Province in total as the possible force of intimidation in the up-coming PC elections against the Sinhalese and the Tamils. With a great feeling of guilt as a Muslim to the Tamils of the North and Eastern Provinces, being a Muslim, I feel ashamed to tell that - IF NOT FOR THE FIRE POWER SUPPORT THE MR. GOVERNMENT IS RECEIVING FROM OUR MUSLIM BROTHEREN AND GOVERNMENTS LIKE PAKISTAN and IRAN, and unconditional aid received from Saudi, Qatar, Kuwait UAE and Turkey, you would have been nowhere in the Eastern Province Mr. Minister.

Do not propagate COMMUNALISM in Sri Lankan Mr. Minister. Look at the number of Muslims HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa has appointed to very high Presidential Advisory positions around him please. Look at the number of Ministry portfolios he has given Muslims around him. Are you trying to make a FOOL of HE. Mahinda Rajakasa by playing to the Sinhala nationalist forces that are even opposed by the respected Maha Sangha of the Malwatha and Asgiriya Nikayas. The SLMC is the strongest political force in the Eastern Province , whether it irritates you or not. The SLMC holds the voting power to “tipping the balance” in any elections in the North Eastern and Eastern Provinces . You have NO right to treat the SLMC and the SLMC supporters/voters COMMUNALLY please.

At the same time, I have great respect to the young lads in the Security Forces and in the North and East who are sacrificing their lives for the worthy cause of Nations - but you are simply an opportunist trying to gain selfish popularity as a Sinhala COMMUNALIST. I hope that the MR Government will realize your burden after the Eastern Province Elections. Please stop your way of Politics and work for PEACE and Harmony for all in Sri Lanka . Just leave the SLMC to themselves for the moment. Better the MR. Government ask you NOT to get involved in the Eastern Province anymore.
