Save Them from Terror

Dilrook Kannangara

Using the lives of young girls as bomb carriers and to commit destruction and death on others cannot be justified in any civilized community. It is a crime against children and also a crime against humanity. It is no secret that terrorist organizations throughout the world consider explosives more valuable than the person who is carrying it. The documentary “My Daughter, the Terrorist” is as despicable an effort as the use of commodified, controlled and devalued lives of suicide bombers who are forced to carryout suicide/homicide/genocide attacks. Unfortunately the desire to get popular and to earn wide reputation has taken over humane qualities.

It is a great injustice to all those innocent girls who were caught young, brainwashed, raped and forced into slavery, prostitution and suicide bombings. Their fervent wish and the wish of their even younger sisters is to lead a life similar to the life of the daughter of the terrorist leader. LTTE terrorist leader’s daughter is residing in Norway with all the comfort he can afford including a very good education with the promise of a good marriage. Why can’t the daughters of poor parents lead decent lives? The movie glorifies this inequality and promotes suicide bombing as a profession just like child prostitution. The damage LTTE terrorists have caused to the Tamil community is enormous. Before it reaches its aspiration of genociding other races, it will surely genocide its own race.

This movie will have similar effects as the series of suicide videos had on children in the UK recently. A number of children committed suicide after seeing such videos. Should suicide bombings be promoted at the expense of the lives of many young girls, victims of their attacks and the community and family that gave birth to them?

The former Indian Prime Minister was killed by a young female suicide bomber in 1991. In 2006 a pregnant woman blew herself up severely injuring the Sri Lankan Army Commander. LTTE is exploiting the respect and care the Sri Lankan society has for ladies and girls for its barbaric needs. This is the culmination of the use of women to carryout suicide attacks. This particular woman was ravished and made to bear an unwanted child and then sent with a bomb to kill herself. As a result of LTTE using girls to carry bombs, ordinary Tamils girls have to face a lot of hardships at checkpoints, etc.

For the sake of humanity the movie “My Daughter, the Terrorist” should not be screened as it glorifies crimes against women and children.
