Canadian federalism in Sri Lanka.

THE OTTAWA CITIZEN

Sir:

The comments from the three leaders of the Liberal, NDP and the Bloc Coalition parties, after the prorogation of parliament due to the ‘economic stimulus package’ crisis was stunning and juvenile.

What disappoints me with all these shenanigans and listening to the Liberal Party leadership contender Bob Rae was, that it was a joke for him to go to Sri Lanka several times in the recent past to promote federalism.

In the eyes of the Sri Lankans in that little island nation which itself is in a crisis due to Tamil Tiger separatist terrorism, they should now tell these Canadians who go down to preach the virtues of the Canadian brand of federalism, that they are a bunch of humbugs who make back room deals with separatists to overthrow a government in a bloodless coup which was elected not so long ago, and that they don’t need the Canadian advice on good governance. This is certainly not an example of federalism that Sri Lanka should adopt.
