OK.. CFA is abrogated, what next ? The next is to build a new Nation to live together in affectionate brotherhood.

By Charles S.Perera

There was an article in Asiatribune: OK.. CFA is abrogated, what next ? by K.T.Rajasinghama.

It was an interesting caption. An agreement is entered into at least by two parties accepting to respect and be bound by it. In the case of the CFA one party adhered to it, while the other constantly infringed it. Therefore, the moment it was infringed, it lost its legal credence. Later on the other party to the agreement too infringed it. And the agreement ceased, by both parties not respecting it.

The government in saying that it withdraws from the CFA has merely announced that the comedy of a non-existing CFA is over. The comedy was- that, the CFA was flaunted as a theatrical nonentity to fool the spectators. The spectators watched it amused by its comical aspect , and saddened by its tragic aspect. Hence it was a tragi-comedy, played for the sake of the International Community.

Mr.K.T.Rajasingham says the announcing of the intention of abrogating of the CFA, amounts to opening the flood gates of war. It is a wrong assumption as there was never a war, neither in the East nor in the North. The mistaken idea had come from the interposing of a pseudo-CFA which created the illusion of an existing war. Mr.Rajasingham could therefore be rest assured that there would not be an opening of the flood gates of war after abrogating the CFA. What existed was the Government Security Forces in its duty of defending the country, counter attacking a set of individuals who had taken up arms and terrorised the people. .

The CFA gave the terrorist a name LTTE, and demarcated certain territories as coming under their control, and also gave them Military insignias, making them look like a military group. They eventually drew up a manifesto in which they declared themselves as liberators of the Tamil people, fighting to take over the Tamil Homeland which had been probably capitulated to the Sinhala people, by their fore fathers millions of years ago, which was eventually encompassed as part of their territory by the vile Sinhala people.

The terrorists with the help of their Norwegian friends almost sold the story to the International Community who adore these stories that help them to re- live their glorious past like the 100 years war, the Crusades, the holy wars and all that. The International Community swallowed the fable of the Tamil Homeland lock stock and barrel, as much as the Tamil Diaspora some of who were looking for an anti Sinhala Monster, to carve out a land from Sri Lanka for the Tamils.

Thus the CFA created a militant group for a war of liberation, and some Tamils sentimentally accepted the idea of a homeland, and showered the terrorists with millions of Dollars just to carve out a sufficiently large land mass for the Homeland, while others saw through the hoax that was being played by the terrorists along with the Norwegians, but silently waited to see what the out come would be. Unfortunately for the terrorists, they made a Himalayan mistake of not respecting the CFA , enhancing their terrorism, eliminating the Tamil intelligentsia, who the terrorists not being educated enough, could not accept, and assassinating every one who opposed them..

But they bamboozled the International Community, who perhaps had their own Agenda, which was unknown to the terrorists or to the Government. It is a secret known only to the International Community, the EU, and perhaps, the Human Rights Watch, the Amnesty International, Ban ki Moon and few others .

Thus the CFA, which was correctly compared to an unborn child by some one, if it did not serve any thing else, helped to create a group of freedom fighters, out of a group of ruthless, blood thirsty terrorists.

Now without the CFA, we can distinguish between the terrorists, and the Tamils, because the Tamils are not the terrorists. The confusion resulted from the CFA. Now we see better with whom we could talk politics, and devolution of power. Now we know with whom we could talk about peace and request to come forward for proposals not to divide the Nation, but to create unity under one Nation, under one flag, in one Country.

Now we also know who the Government Security Forces are fighting against, who the Government Security Forces are flushing out in the North. Now we know there is no war in the North, but it is only the Security forces attacking the terrorists, who are terrorising the innocent Tamil people keeping them under their control.

The CFA was the coloured glass through which the International Community was looking at the terrorists. That is why they kept on asking the Government of Sri Lanka to come to a negotiated peace settlement with the terrorists. The coloured glass of CFA through which the International Community and all the do-gooders and humanitarians had been looking at the terrorists was too opaque, and they did not see the difference between a terrorist, and a Tamils. Same thing happened to Hillary Clinton, who was looking at our terrorists from the same opaque glass, and saw them different, from her terrorist.

Finally Mr. K.T.Rajasingham, says that the important issue is once the Government notified its intention of abrogating the CFA, it should have then and there announced its political proposal too. Government's un-preparedness to announce such a proposal amounts to its unconcern about the minorities in this country.

This is again a misconstrued opinion of Mr.Rajasingham. It is well and good that the APCR did not come out with a proposal of devolution of power until the CFA is abrogated, because, the devolution of power is in no way to satisfy the whims and fancies of the terrorists. But the devolution of power is a means to bring the minority communities, and the majority community together. If the terrorists want any part of it, they should then lay down their arms, and accept democratic principles.

Mr.K.T.Rajasingham should also learn a lesson from terrorism that had lasted several decades taking a large toll of human lives, be they Sinhala, Tamil or Muslim, and give up communal hatred and extend his hand of friendship to his Sinhala, Muslim and Burgher compatriots to build a new Nation where we can live together in affectionate brotherhood. That should be what it is after the abrogation of the CFA.
