No regrets on abrogation of CFA but an investigation is needed -Open letters to leaders of Nordic countries

Ben Silva UK

Dear Sir,

I am referring to the news item in Tamil net which indicated ‘Foreign Ministers of the Nordic countries said in their joint statement regretting the unilateral decision by the GoSL to abrogate the ceasefire’ .

CFA was used by LTTE to prepare for war. Norway was not neutral as they should have been, but helped LTTE [1],[4],[8]. The CFA agreement itself favours LTTE and it was fraudulently tailor-made for helping the terror group LTTE [7] gain legitimacy, by Anton Balasingham, with the connivance of Norway. There should be no regrets if an agreement that favours terrorism and that assist the growth of terrorism resulting in increased deaths is abrogated. Serious allegations against Norway and especially against Mr Erik Solheim [1],[4],[8] needs to be investigated for their bias towards LTTE before any criticism is made against Sri Lanka. LTTE used the CFA to build up military strength with the potential to make future wars and to kill massive numbers, well in excess of 10000, with its air power. By abrogating the CFA, thereby preventing military build up by LTTE, we can prevent future wars and save millions. Remember 60000 were killed using atom bombs, to prevent the continuation of the world war.

CFA was not endorsed by the parliament or people, therefore it is not legal. It is unjust as well, as people did not have a say in it. The Sri Lankan Government has a duty and a right to protect its citizens in wanni from the grips of a racist terrorist. Undue pressure was exerted by Norway to the GoSL to enter into the CFA with the terrorists. Tamil United Liberation Front leader, Veerasingam Anandasangaree, has stated, welcoming the decision to abrogate the Ceasefire Agreement, that the agreement only helped the LTTE to expand its terrorist activities and to blindfold the international community.

LTTE is able to wage war against Sri Lanka because of the funding raised from Western countries. Therefore Western countries must be held responsible and liable for the death and destruction in Sri Lanka.

The CFA also allowed LTTE to carry out an undeclared secret war against Sri Lanka. Until recently, LTTE have been the predators, preying on members of the government, the security establishment, the administrative apparatus, non-LTTE politicians, and so on without following any rules of war. So abrogating the CFA will allow the GOSL. to deal with the secret war of LTTE and there should be no regrets for abrogating the CFA. Those nations that regret the abrogation of the CFA should carry out an investigations on the allegations given in NAT about the involvement of Norway and Mr Erik Solheim with LTTE [4]. Without pussyfooting, an investigations should be carried out about the extremely serious allegations against Norway and Mr Solheim.

Sri Lanka is facing a racist terrorist group, hell bent on carving a part of Sri Lanka, for its mission to create a Tamil empire. This racist group gets its funding from bogus refugees and also various world Tamil groups. Sri Lanka should give priority to protects the human rights of its citizens and its sovereignty and territorial integrity. This is giving the same rights to Sri Lanka as enjoyed by other countries. Remember what USA did when it felt it was under a terrorist threat. Before any one contemplate being critical of Sri Lanka, they should look at the conduct of other countries that came under external threats.

If LTTE is allowed to continue in its mission, the whole of the Indian subcontinent will disintegrate, will make the region poorer and powerless. It is certainly not in the interests of countries in the region to allow racism to grow and create countries based on ethnicity. An intelligent reader can work out who will be the beneficiary of such disintegration and chaos. Many wonder if this is the reason why some racists in Western countries, who masquerade as human rights activists, turn a blind eye to the activities of LTTE and oppose GoSL, which is a democratically elected Government. It was India that destabilised Sri Lanka by arming and training LTTE and now some Western countries such as Norway is doing a similar thing to destabilise Sri Lanka. The information given in NAT should receive the attention of Nordic countries.

Sri Lanka had been haemorrhaging at the hands of the Tamil Tiger terrorists since 1975, and no one cared, not even the UN . The Sinhalese have been ethnically cleansed from their home land, their irrigation system destroyed, their culture destroyed, over centuries, by invading South Indian war lords and no one cared. Recently, LTTE carried out ethnic cleansing of Sinhalese and Muslims and still no one cared. Western countries and HR organisations that shed fake tears have done very little to curb terrorism. In deed, it is the apathy of western countries, and their lax immigration controls that allowed large number of bogus refugees into their countries, is the root cause of the problem. LTTE is using their wealth to infiltrate various organisations and carry out a vicious and malicious disinformation campaign against Sri Lanka.

The above statement need to be brought to the notice of IC and various friends of LTTE such as UN, AI and HRW.

If LTTE is allowed to continue it would cause a human tragedy similar to the tragedy caused by Hitler. Both Hitler’s racists views and LTTE’s racists views and operational methods are similar. Both Hitler and LTTE have carried out ethnic cleansing.

The whole mess in Sri Lanka is due the funds raised in Western countries.

The terrorist problem could be solved if Western countries take a proactive approach to stop

· LTTE fund raising,

· LTTE arms trafficking,

· LTTE brainwashing of children and adults,

· LTTE child recruitment .

Western countries, if they are genuine about human rights, then should look at root cause of the problem and deal with the root cause rather than symptoms.

In a nutshell, Western countries, that turned a blind eye to LTTE fundraising, are responsible for the whole mess in Sri Lanka. They should compensate the victims and Sri Lanka in an appropriate manner.

Another issue that has to be dealt with is the matter of compensation of victims. It has been suggested by Norwegians against Terror (NAT) that Norway should compensate Sri Lanka, as it has actively and knowingly supported terrorists. Other countries that allowed a large influx of bogus refugees and turned a blind eye to terrorist fundraising should also be made accountable and asked to compensate the victims of terrorists.

My view is that the above paragraph deals with natural justice and the criminal or the group that funded the crime should compensate the victim.

This letter is not against the Norwegian people, but to expose some rouge elements in power. I take this opportunity to acknowledge the bravery, courage and the support provided by Svik and NAT in their brave fight against terrorism. It is like a Goliath vs David fight. It made me realise that there good human beings in the world who will speak out the truth and stand up for justice and fair play. The actions of Svik made me have faith in humanity and fellow humans. The actions of Svik and NAT is a sharp contrast to the shameful acts of HRW, who appear to be merely LTTE sympathisers, parroting LTTE views and appear to have a good life on other peoples donations.

I wish to emphasize the following:

There is evidence of Norway supporting terrorists and tailoring CFA to suit LTTE. These allegations needs investigating. The issue of compensating Sri Lanka and compensating of victims of terrorism, by countries that funded or turned a blind eye to LTTE fund raising should be addressed, if the world has any sense of Justice. The safeguarding of Human rights of citizens, which is the responsibility of GoSL, should take priority over rights of LTTE (Terrorists) to kill.

Acknowledgements also to volunteers at SPUR and Lankaweb, who work tirelessly, to promote peace and justice in Sri Lanka

Yours sincerely,

Ben Silva

Appendix A

Extract from the editorial of ‘The Island’ on line edition [7]

The CFA was doomed right from the word go, having been signed on Feb. 22, 2002 against the backdrop of a fierce sea battle between the Navy and the Sea Tigers who were smuggling in a large quantity of arms in spite of the LTTE’s self-declared ceasefire, exposing its real motive. The LTTE’s hand in the drafting of the CFA was only too evident. It was tailor-made for helping the LTTE gain legitimacy and officially recognising some parts of the country as being ruled by the outfit thus bolstering its claim of running a de facto state.

The CFA was in fact a fait accompli thrust on the then Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who didn’t look quite chirpy, when he signed it, as was clear from the conspicuous absence of handshakes etc., on that occasion. He cut a very pathetic figure when he placed his signature on a document which had already been signed by Prabhakaran, whom Anton Balasingham later referred to as at a media conference in the Wanni, attended by the international press, as ‘both President and Prime Minister’ of

the areas under LTTE control! The CFA was also signed behind the back of President Chandrika Kumaratunga, who was also the Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces! That was nothing but diplomatic ‘thuggery’ on the part of Norway and other countries backing it, to coerce Sri Lanka into prostituting her sovereignty for a mess of pottage. The end result of the CFA was the undue internationalisation The end result of the CFA was the undue internationalisation of the conflict, increased foreign interference with the internal affairs of this country, legitimacy for the LTTE and the creation of an environment conducive to LTTE arms smuggling operations. According to Karuna, the outfit took delivery of 13 arms shipments between the signing of the CFA and his breakaway in March 2004.

The LTTE, according to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) violated the CFA over 3,800 times (by last April) while the armed forces stood accused of over 350 truce violations. The LTTE never wanted to abrogate the CFA, which it found to be a milch cow. The outfit continued to violate the truce with impunity, while its allies used the CFA to ratchet up international pressure on the government to give up its war effort.
