ASIAN TRIBUNE SAYS UNP HAS IMPORTED ELECTION GOONS FROM COLOMBO TO CREATE VIOLENCE IN EASTERN PC ELECTIONS

The popular web newspaper Asian Tribune reported that the opposition United National Party has imported election goons from Colombo to join hands with LTTE intelligence operatives remaining in the province to create elections violence and blame it on the Tamil Makkal Vidusalai Pulikal (TMVP).

“‘Asian Tribune’ learnt that UNP parliamentarians as well as provincial Council Members have arrived in the East together with 30 to 40 of goons each from the south to attack the TMVP and Muslim youths supporting the UPFA and create disturbances in the East on the eve of the elections and on the polling day”, the website reported. .

Quoting unnamed senior citizen the website said, “The UNP is using the same strong-arm tactics they used 25 years ago in the District Development Council elections in Jaffna.”

The Asian Tribune quoted Azad Moulana , the spokesperson of the TMVP as saying, “ UNP goons and the LTTE intelligence group cadres are jointly roaming the Eastern province armed openly with lethal weapons. He said these UNP stalwarts who are in the East have instructed their goons to destroy posters put out by the TMVP to ensure clashes with the TMVP activists in order to discredit the elections by blaming the TMVP for clashes”

Moulana said Pillaiyan the the TMVP leader has instructed all members of the TMVP not to be provoked and be restrained.

Meanwhile , the LTTE has exploded a bomb, police said at Ampara in the Eastern Province and political analysts said they wanted to scare off voters from coming to the polling stations.
